Permissions

[edit]

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you -- I don't check my account here that often. Thank you for your request though. I have forwarded Whit Haydn's permission email to the proper address. If you need anything else, please let me know! --Elonka 01:08, 25 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Maybe ask user:Nilfanion to close it. Looks like a delete to me, but I argued pretty strongly in it. Nilfanion didn't so it is more neutral. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 02:54, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK dealt with. Geez. Nilf has good judgement IMO. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 10:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kontaktad

[edit]

/Lokal_Profil 16:38, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vi har ju {{subst:nsd}}, {{subst:nld}} och {{subst:npd}}. De står för "No Source (sorted by) Date", "No License Date" och "No Permission Date".
Fred Chess 10:54, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jo men problemet har ar att det fanns bade licens och kalla, men kalaln var inte specifik nog och licensen saknae stod. Kan man anvanda nsd och nld for fall dar licens/kalla finns men inte ar tillrackligt specifika? /Lokal_Profil 14:13, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jag har nu märkt den. / Fred Chess 22:02, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to ask you to reconsider your decision to delete this image. It is a graph of a mathematical equation that defines color space, which, in turn, was approximated from empirical measurements of human sight during experiments in the 1920s. The organization responsible for codifying this mathematical model as an authoritative standard (in terms of an equation that calculated the visually perceived gamut of wavelengths of a specific range) was the International Commission on Illumination (CIE), a scientific non-profit organization. This standard, known as CIE 1931 color space, is itself a derivative work based on a mathematical model, rendering any possible claim of original authorship to appear dubious at best. Renderings of the 1931 color space are also routinely reproduced in academic and commercial works without any protest from the CIE. I think that this image should be undeleted and appended with {{PD-ineligible}}. ˉanetode╦╩ 17:39, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I sympathize with you, but I don't know anything about this subject, so I don't want to undelete it. I suggest you file a request at Commons:Undeletion requests. Sorry for the incovenience.
Fred Chess 21:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for directing me to the proper venue. ˉanetode╦╩ 00:06, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I just saw this image in CAT:U you uploaded. Please take a look. -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:40, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commons Picture of the Year competition

[edit]

Fred, could you please post the banner on the sv Village pump now, please? And any others you can manage. Then, please come to Commons talk:Picture of the Year/2006/Archived preparatory discussion and strike out waht you've done from the ToDo list. --MichaelMaggs 07:21, 1 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Images from flickr

[edit]

Hi, AleSantos uploads several images from user dcols on flickr (Image:AuditorioTfe.jpg, Image:Castillo Negro.jpg, Image:PCandelaria.jpg, Image:TranTfe.jpg) with cc-by-nc-sa license. Please see Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Turboprop P&W PT6A-67D.jpg. Must be deleted the images? Sorry for my english. Regards. --Edub 18:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Like Image:Turboprop_P&W_PT6A-67D.jpg (from user dcols too), the licenses of these images were changed on flickr. If CC licences are irrevocable, must be deleted the images on Commons? I don't know. --Edub 20:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I do not have doubt that the license of the images was changed. In any case, I am not against if the images are deleted. --Edub 10:59, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Abandoning the POTY project

[edit]

Thank you for your message. I can’t stay not because some user was arrogant and presumptuous in his speech but because no one, except me, has opposed his actions. The obvious conclusion is that I’m in minority e.g. most of the users in our group agree with changing the philosophy of the election and are against making available to voters a sorted list of pictures. Being stopped from inserting such an innocuous link like this one [1] was too much for me. How can I go on if my capacities are being impaired? I'm not important, the election will go on and have an enormous success, that is what I sincerely wish. Alvesgaspar 19:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked him again. See Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#Cidoferraz_.28talk_.E2.80.A2_contribs.29_.28Portugese.29, Special:Contributions/Cidoferraz and User_talk:Cidoferraz -- Bryan (talk to me) 09:46, 3 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

[edit]

Hello Fred Chess.
I'm working on articles about the Vought Aircraft Industries and the Chance Vought F4U Corsair fighter. For that purpose, I created in SVG the modern logo of the Vought Aircraft Industries, following the official logo (with the right colours) available on their site. I pretend also recreate the older logos of that company.
Of course, the name « Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. » as well as the logo are copyrighted. I would like to know if I can upload my image on Commons, using the template:Trademarked saying that the French law authorize the use of a trademarked logo for illustration as long as it is clearly stated on the page that it's the logo of that company.
On the French speaking Wikipedia, we can find many trademarked logos (category here) using the possibility of the French law on intellectual property, all uploaded on that local WP. Saying this, it seems that it's not possible on Commons, but I prefer ask you before making the upload there.
Thanks for the answer. Sting 21:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sting.
A very interesting question that we (and indeed me) have discussed at great lengths!
The current position is that logos are not permitted on Commons. We had some problems with logos from German Wikipedia (simple logos aren't copyright protected in Germany), but eventually we had to delete them all because it was too confusing to try and interpret logos in regards to copyright and trademark laws (national and international)...
So the same thing here-- the logos aren't allowed here. Sorry! Thanks for asking before uploading though.
Fred Chess 22:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello.
OK, that's what I thought. Thanks. Sting 11:39, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fred, you asked for the permission e-mail of the image mentioned above. As I did not have an e-mail but was only give a rather vague GFDL permission two years ago, I contacted the agency again. They are not able to give us an written permission and claim the GFDL licensing was some kind of misunderstanding. Unfortunately I did not request a clear e-mail in those days... That's a pity, but obviously we have to delete the relevant pictures, which are:

Could you do this? Thanks a lot! --Svencb 09:35, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will do it. I'm glad we sorted it all out. I hope you agree that it is better to have no image than image with faulty permissions, or permissions based on misunderstandings. Maybe it would be a good idea to inform Norwegian Wikipedia (where I believe you are active?) about this deletetion -- if you haven't already. / Fred Chess 23:10, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, clear permissions are definitely necessary. Unfortunately the e-mail templates did not exist two or three years ago, so I believe a lot of commons pictures "with permission" will have a similar status.
I am not active on no-Wikipedia. --Svencb 00:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, of course. Then inform German Wikipedia. / Fred Chess 14:32, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you

[edit]

deleting PD-self images now? why? --WTCA 09:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Logos are not allowed on Commons. Please read our licensing guidelines! / Fred Chess 09:46, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not talking about logos. I'm talking about "PD-self images" such as the below. Please read my question!
800px-White House from South commons.jpg
750px-Pbalson 20060527 IMG 3615 commons.jpg
They are thumbnails. The original image is bigger. / Fred Chess 23:13, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Permission

[edit]

Hi, do you have access to OTRS? --Steschke 10:37, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no. Maybe I should get it. See Template talk:PermissionOTRS for a list. / Fred Chess 10:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please send an email to the OTRS (permissions-de@wikimedia.org) with Ticket#2006123110011155 in the header. There's a sv permission I can't understand an I'd like to forward it to you to read and give a statement. --Steschke 10:45, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I have done it.... / Fred Chess 10:48, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. You should have the response now. --Steschke 10:53, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ehhh.. this is a for-Wikipedia-permission. David explicitly mentions tyska Wikipedian, which is of course "German Wikipedia", and that is all. The reply: Det går bra. Håller med, skulle se lite bättre ut med bilder. " only means "It is alright. It would look better with some images. " / Fred Chess 10:57, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So we can't accept this as GFDL or cc-by. Do you have a sv-permission-Text to reply to get a good permission like de:http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorlage:URV/Erlaubnis? (which was the right Ticket#? - can't find it now.) --Steschke 11:09, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen any such template in Swedish, neither here nor on Swedish Wikipedia. If you hang on, I'll try to arrange something. / Fred Chess 11:21, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm shure, that will be helpfull also for the swedisch WP. After forwording the ticket it's marked as closed and I can't find it... you remember the ticket#? I'd like to open it again. Sorry. --Steschke 11:25, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You mean Ticket#2007012410015568 ? :-)

Fred Chess 11:29, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just found it ;-) 2007012410015568 - thanks --Steschke 11:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's no permission-sv queue on OTRS yet. You may take a look here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/OTRS --Steschke 12:01, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll discuss it with Riggwelter, the contact for Info-sv. It may take a while for something to happen though. / Fred Chess 12:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see what you are trying to do. I'll try something. --Cat out 13:27, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, very nice. Thanks. / Fred Chess 14:00, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images with unknown source as of 20 February 2007

[edit]

The categories for the images with unknown source are created for February. so I have reverted the edit of the template. When creating the categories for March I will chance to category name for a shorter version. -- Rüdiger Wölk 23:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, they are created at the start of each month. Ok, sounds good. / Fred Chess 13:39, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think since january last year or so, I create the categories every month. Will do it again for March. and than I will create the shorter version and change the template. -- Rüdiger Wölk 14:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
