Please use sub-categories

[edit]
Commons loves cats *meow*

Dear FibonacciBlue, thank you for your uploads, they are very welcome. Please take into account that Commons doesn't use "tags" like Flickr - we prefer cats ;) here. So when you upload files please replace multiple tags by only the few relevant (sub-)categories, depending on what is really shown in the picture. There is no need to add a category to a picture when one of the picture's other categories is already in that (parent) category. To give you an idea please see here and here how other fellow contributors have helped you with that. A short description with the link to our official categorization policy is here:

dansk | Deutsch | Österreichisches Deutsch | Schweizer Hochdeutsch | Deutsch (Sie-Form)‎ | English | español | suomi | français | עברית | magyar | italiano | 日本語 | norsk bokmål | Plattdüütsch | Nederlands | norsk | polski | português do Brasil | русский | sicilianu | svenska | +/−

When categorising files, please avoid placing them into several categories that are directly linked within the same tree (e.g. a parent category and a child category – like Category:United Kingdom and Category:London), to prevent over-categorization of files and over-population of categories. Usually, only the most specific category should be used. See Commons:Categories for more details. Thank you.

STOP!

[edit]

@FibonacciBlue: Why do you go on flooding categories like Category:Castile, Category:Matter, Category:Black, Category:Mansion (and more) with unrelated content? Why don't you respond to friendly messages on your talk page? Do you really want this to escalate? --SI 15:09, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

flickr2commons makes the categories

[edit]

I use the flick2rcommons tool, and it makes all those categories from flickr tags by default. If I forget to specifically turn that off, that's what it does. Maybe whoever owns that tool should change the default behavior if it's such a problem. The tool: http://tools.wmflabs.org/flickr2commons/index.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by FibonacciBlue (talk • contribs) 00:41, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Magnus Manske: could you fix that in your tool, or explain how FibonacciBlue can fix it? Thx! --SI 13:57, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can't fix it, because it ain't broken; it does exactly what it's supposed to do. But, I the option is now off by default. --Magnus Manske (talk) 17:23, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Magnus! --SI 12:56, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I confirm the "Automatically detect categories if none are given manually" is now unchecked by default in flickr2commons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FibonacciBlue (talk • contribs) 18:13, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@FibonacciBlue: please understand that we are all volunteers here. When you use a tool it is your task to check how you are operating it and to fix the outcome. See also Commons:Flickr2Commons. So may I kindly ask you to fix the miscategorizations of your uploads. And btw, as already explained in the welcome message above, please sign your comments on talk pages. --SI 12:56, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hey FibonacciBlue, sorry, I just saw this edit - I really didn't want to disappoint or bother you - is this only because of this cat-thing here? I still stand by my words, that your contributions are very welcome here! --SI 20:20, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flowers for Prince at First Avenue in Minneapolis (25962783763).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
