Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Gentile Gunnex, sono la ragazza che si è occupata per due o tre mesi di redigere la guida turistica sia in italiano che in inglese di Fabrica di Roma (VT), purtroppo non posso controllare tutti i giorni la Guida Turistica ed oggi mi sono sorpresa non poco nel constatare che dopo aver seguito tutta la prassi per fare le guide alla fine hanno cancellato tutte le immagini. L'immagine lunga nel banner, per esempio, l'ho fatta io e messa in Commons come da prassi, le altre immagini sono state caricate tutte su commons e mi sono state date direttamente dal signor Doriano Pedica dell'Ufficio Cultura Fabrica di Roma. Ho messo le licenze creative commons sia nel sito del comune ( http://www.comune.fabricadiroma.vt.it/ ) che nel sito della parrocchia ( http://www.parrocchiafabrica.it/ ). Dear Gunnex, I'm the girl who was responsible for two or three months to draw up the guide in Italian and in English Fabrica di Roma (VT), unfortunately I can not check every day the Guide and today I'm really surprised to see that after following all the practices to develop the Wikivoyage guides, all the images have been deleted. For example, the image in the long banner (i.e. Fabrica di Roma - Panorama.jpg), has been shot and inserted into Commons by myself following the rules. All the other images have been loaded into Commons and I have been given directly by Mr. Doriano Pedica that works for the Office of Culture of "Fabrica di Roma" town. I've added the creative commons licenses in the website of the town (http://www.comune.fabricadiroma.vt.it/) that the site of the parish (http://www.parrocchiafabrica.it/). Hi everybody! Checking Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Fabrica di Roma again, no details ("no link") were provided to explain why all these files ("most likely several authors involved, multiple exifs available") may be in {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} ("on which base?"), including a copyrighted photo from Panoramio. Due to the unknown source a COM:License review would fail. Per COM:EVID the uploader must provide appropriate evidence to demonstrate either that these files are in the public domain or that the copyright owners have released them under a suitable licence.
As is it seems that these photos were taken by different persons, we need either a credible source (a link) where the relative photo was published under a free license or permissions by the copyright owners via COM:OTRS. Example: File:Panorama La Rocca.jpg needs permission from "FRANCO CRESTONI".
Note the above cited http://www.comune.fabricadiroma.vt.it/ is using different license models. The main page (and other pages) are CC-BY-SA-3.0 but (e.g.) http://comune.fabricadiroma.vt.it/cultura-e-turismo/cultura-news/ (and eventual other pages) is CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 = not compatible with COM:Licensing

Dear Gunnex, I think to understand where it was the problem. Who operate the site of municipality of Fabrica di Roma dont’ put the same license Creative Commons in all pages. I would like to resolve so: I have written to person that operate the site to change the license Creative Commons ( to put in all pages the license CC-BY-SA 3.0!!), then I remove only the image File:Panorama La Rocca.jpg of FRANCO CRESTONI, because don’t succeeded to search out him. I would like to put in Commons my image of Fabrica di Roma that I have used for the long Banner, because I have done the photo myself. Hi Gunnex and INeverCry, I have adjusted the license in all pages of site municipality (http://www.comune.fabricadiroma.vt.it/), now I ask you: can I write to this page (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Undeletion_requests) to require to restore all images ( but not the image Panorama La Rocca.jpg of Franco Crestoni)??? Now the right licence correctly appears on each page of the official web site of the city of Fabrica di Roma. Once you have the "green light" from Gunnex and/or INeverCry (surely more expert than me here in Commons) you can fill your undelete request, copyng and pasting all the wikilinks to the image that you want to be restored from the list above. --Andyrom75 (talk) 08:24, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DearGunnex, yesterday ( 02/04/2015) I have loaded other our images in Commons. These images are clicked ourself by Sony DSLR-A290. The images are: Chiesa Collegiare Fabrica.JPG, Scorcio 1 Castello Rocca Fabrica.JPG, Scorcio 2 Castello Rocca Fabrica.JPG, Palazzo Cencelli Fabrica.JPG, Chiesa della Madonna della stradella Fabrica, Interno Chiesa della Madonna della Pieta' Fabrica.JPG. I have a question for you: I go wrong in naming an image (Chiesa della Madonna della Pietà Fabrica di Roma.JPG ) beaucause this is the name of an other Church. How do I do to change this? Per cambiare il nome di un file puoi farlo tu stessa usando il {{Rename}} seguendo il parametro più adatto che trovi in Template:File renaming reasons/i18n. Essendo inserito da te il parametro più semplice è il nr.1 (pur nell'errore iniziale saprai ben tu, essendo l'autrice dello scatto, se il soggetto si chiama Tizio, Caio o Sempronio) quindi basterà modificare la pagina di File:Chiesa della Madonna della Pietà Fabrica di Roma.JPG inserendo il template {{rename|Chiesa della Madonna della stradella Fabrica 2.JPG|1|My error}}. Tieni presente che esiste anche un bar di discussione in lingua italiana dove (almeno in teoria) dovresti trovare delle risposte da admin e/o utenti esperti, in ogni caso sentiti libera di contattarmi quando vuoi (anche se non sempre riesco a rispondere in breve tempo). Buon lavoro e , anche se per sfruttarle in un Progetto wikimedia non c'erano molte alternative (e se ancora nessuno l'ha fatto), grazie per aver scelto di caricare le foto in Commons, in particolare a me che sono "maniaco" di chiese e oratori :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 08:06, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Dato che l'operazione deve essere fatta da un admin (non credo affidino questi compiti ad un bot per evitare stupidaggini) devi aver un po' di pazienza, alle volte lo fanno in qualche decina di minuti, altre volte passa un giorno o più, ma di solito poi passano loro stessi a rinominare i file presenti sui progetti Wikimedia.--Threecharlie (talk) 08:09, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
