Hi, the evidence for the Creative commons license is found in the video itself. The final credits state 'creative common 3.0 by', etc. This is exactly how it was released by the original creator at this site here: https://gloria.tv/post/SV9ES4hDZgW266sCquoeFM6mA . I've already added this link to the permission section on the page in case the declaration on the video itself wasn't sufficient. Reesorville (talk) 20:19, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I removed {{No permission since}}. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 01:23, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of photographic material relating to Frank Stilwell, Humphrey McQueen and Patrick Troy (Australia)

[edit]

[[File:Frank Carbone with volunteers on Georges River, in Western Sydney.jpg File:Patrick Troy.png File:The student campaign to save Political Economy from amalgamation with Government, 2011.jpg File:Stilwell lecturing on Inequality at the University of Sydney 2018.jpg File:Frank Stilwell at Political Economy Society May 2017.jpg File:Political Economy Conference 1976 Sydney.jpg File:Humphrey McQueen HM 2017.jpg File:Frank Stilwell at Sydney Uni.jpg File:Frank Stilwell at Political Economy Society.jpg]]

Hi there, all of these photos are my own work, I am a researcher in the Sydney area, and have provided my time to improve awareness around a range of academic areas. In particular, it is important that Frank Stilwell's page be restored, as I have spent many hours collating photographs to raise awareness of the very specific history of political economy at the university of Sydney. Patrick Troy and Humphrey McQueen are two other intellectuals, who's memory and legacy are supported by photographic documentation. If you have a more substantial issue, could you please make this explicit.

I am the owner of all the deleted material listed.

You can find my honours thesis here: https://ses.library.usyd.edu.au/handle/2123/16655 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ageispolis11 (talk • contribs) 23:16, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear sir or madam, this picture does NOT violet any copyright law. I am the owner of the picture and I provide to Wikipedia licence for Creative Commons. I put a mark on the wiki sites, send an email and I am in contact with Czech Wikipedia organisation. They told me, everything is all right. Could you explain where is the problem according to you? Why do you delete any pictures based on your instinct and without any proof? Undelete the picture immediately! Thank you for your answer --Yarrrick (talk)

Deletion of LOGO EVS DE 4C.jpg

[edit]

Would you be so kind and explain me why you deleted the file LOGO EVS DE 4C.jpg from the Wiki-Page of the Evangelischer Verein für die Schneller Schulen? It says that there are copyright violations which I can't understand. We are the organisation that owns the rights on the file. Our identity got verrified on Wikimedia last year. I am not hundret percent familiar with copyright resctrictions but if we declare the file as beeing in public domain (if thats the right term) then it should be ok. Right? If not please tell us what we can do to re-upload the file. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.167.239.46 (talk) 13:00, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Gaston sleeping in the marsupilamis' nest.pdf

[edit]

Hello, About the permission for this file, i am not knowledgeable on the issue. Can you tell me more? I did a vectorized version of the original drawing on Illustrator. The original drawing was in low resolution and I spent some time adjusting it (vector points, colors, etc.) It is not exactly the same as the original, as each vector point is not faithfully replicating the drawing nor could it never achieve it. If someone takes a high res photo of a famous painting for example, is that their own art? are they allowed to put that photo on wikipedia? is my case different? Aren't we in a gray zone? Thanks for your insight. --Alllexxxis (talk) 10:34, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

EugeneZelenko, thank you for your attention to the page I'm putting up for Freedom FM Radio in Brooklyn, NY. I'm hosting a new talk show here, please tune in at https://russian.radio this Thursday at 4PM EST. I offered to help with setting up the Wikipedia page for this very charming organization. Believe it or not, this is how things are here; the photos are of actual broadcasts and the events surrounding it. I gladly took responsibility for its usage, they are mostly from the station's website. I'd like to request that they would be kept where they are at Wikimedia Commons, since I satisfied the conditions of their publishing as stipulated at Wikimedia Commons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yura Dashevsky (talk • contribs) 19:54, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's just a cosmetic thing. The reason why  Remove and  Keep are preferred is because  Support could either mean you're supporting the desysop or you're supporting the user. -- King of ♥ 15:05, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:((Insola-de-Porta-Comasina)).jpg and File:((Insola de Porta Comasina i.a.)).pdf

[edit]

Affected:

File:((Insola-de-Porta-Comasina)).jpg And also:

File:((Insola de Porta Comasina i.a.)).pdf

Dear Zelenko,

please delete the file with the extension .pdf, (which I have put on Wikipedia as first, for my mistake), and leave in Wikipedia the image with the extension .jpg.

Both files refer to the same image, but the .jpg is more clear and suitable for Wikipedia.

For what concerns the ownership of the image, I can say that the image File: ((Insola-de-Porta-Comasina)).jpg is a photo which I took from a document of year 1720-23 which is kept in the "Archivio di Stato" of Milano, a department of the Italian Ministero dei Beni Culturali (MIBAC).

Prior to uploading this image in Wikipedia, I got a written permission for this publication by the Director of said "Archivio di Stato", as I have clearly written below my photo. Reproduction of this historical material is allowed by Italian law if such reproduction is made for general information, like encyclopedies and son on, and people has not to pay for viewing it. Of course, people can read Wikipedia free of charge, and Wikipedia is a cultural institution.

Best regards

These file are not your own work. But they may be in public domain, so proper license tag should be used. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory for relevant country. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:44, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Zelenko, in the meantime I made a check in Wikipedia at the item: "Archivio di Stato di Milano" and I found that in this site there is a file which belongs to the same series of mine, that is: http://asmilano.it/Divenire/document.htm?idDoc=10658394&idUa=10658390&first=3&last=3. For this reason I have upload anew my File:((Insola-de-Porta-Comasina)).jpg, adding the same license tag that is used in the Wikipedia "Archivio di Stato di Milano", that is: CC-BY-SA 4.0. I have added more information about the source of my file, inclusive the URL for the said "Archivio di Stato" di Milano: http://asmilano.it/Divenire/ua.htm?idUa=10644185, where everybody can access to the original document. I believe that my file is in the public domain, because the "Archivio di Stato di Milano" has given everybody the access to it in its Website. For this reason, please delete my first two uploads (That is:((Insola de Porta Comasina i.a.)).pdf and ((Insola-de-Porta-Comasina)).jpg, both with the wrong tag) and eventually cancel my LAST image from the list of possible deletion. If I made petty errors in some information I wrote, please correct it (this is my first upload of images, and it is rather a hard work for me). Thank you and best regards. Topogrami (talk) 20:39, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Creative Commons licenses are 21th century artifact and archive is not original author. Again, see Commons:Copyright rules by territory for relevant country. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 22:41, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

German-Polish Research Institute Three Pictures

[edit]

The picture File:2012-03-02 Vereinbarung PNIB-Gruendung.jpg is an official picture by the Collegium Polonicum, still in view on its internet site. Maybe I have not chosen the right classification? The picture is definitely in the public domain, showing university representatives at a ceremonial act (see https://www.cp.edu.pl/de/o_nas/historia/index.html).

The picture File:5th Anniversary PNIB.jpg is an official picture by the Collegium Polonicum, German-Polish Research Institute. It was in view on the now closed internet site of the institute, and still is in view on the institute´s Facebook site. Maybe I have not chosen the right classification? The picture is definitely in the public domain, showing university representatives at a ceremonial act (see https://www.facebook.com/PolskoNiemieckiInstytutBadawczy).

The picture File:Gauck CP 2013.jpg has indeed been shot by myself (there may be similar pictures available from this event somewhere in the net, but this is my own work). So I suppose the chosen classification is the right one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spiculum (talk • contribs) 14:49, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but if photo is placed somewhere on Internet, this doesn't mean that it's in public domain or under terms of free license. License must be mentioned explicitly. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:56, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK - so how can the two files 2012-03-02 Vereinbarung PNIB-Gruendung.jpg and 5th Anniversary PNIB.jpg be deleted as quickly as possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spiculum (talk • contribs) 12:06, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Usually deletion requests are closed after week. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:46, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Now you listed the logo of the German-Polish Research Institute for deletion. This consists of the written names in Polish and German, plus two coloured rectangles linked by a bows. To me, that is a logo consisting of simplest forms. The institute who created it was closed in 2019 and cannot be contacted. If you still see a problem, delete it. I understand that the photo I indeed took myself of the event in which took place president Gauck would have to be deleted too after all, as the logo of the institute is visible behind him (as ist the logo of two universities) God knows whether perhaps anyone has the rights on the design of the lectern he is using on the photo. Sorry - if one as a beginner in Wikipedia cannot get any assistance in using pictures in advance and has to get through endless texts before being told that anyway there might be problems everyway, than why does Wikipedia not just stop telling authors to illustrate their contributions? Forgive me, it was an exercise at school, it wasn't my intention to upload it. You can proceed with the cancellation, thanks. --Luigi Catalani (talk) 16:53, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Eugene, I wanted to let you know that I removed your "missing permission" tag from this file. It was uploaded by a verified account that is linked to Gruner + Jahr publishers, so I don't think we need any particular permission for this file. De728631 (talk) 15:14, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usually such confirmations are handled via Commons:OTRS and ticket should be mentioned on each fule. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:23, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. But then I don't get the point in verifying the accounts if they still need to get approval for each and every file they upload. What I have seen so far is that verified accounts do not need to have their uploads checked again. There are lots of uploads from people in Category:Verified accounts that don't have an OTRS ticket mentioned at the file. However, there are also files like this. I think I'm going to ask for clarification at the OTRS noticeboard. De728631 (talk) 15:49, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Chaz Cardigan Vulnerabilia cover

[edit]

I am a new user. What is the proper upload protocol for an album cover? The album was released on a major label, it is freely available on all streaming services, it's verifiable on AllMusic, is it not considered public domain? As far as I'm aware the cover was created by the artist or the record label. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LawknQee (talk • contribs) 17:26, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, availability of image on Internet doesn't mean that its terms of use are comparable with Commons:Licensing. However, you could upload non-free media into projects that allow it, for example, English Wikipedia. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 22:37, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Various ;D

[edit]

Dear Eugene, hello there, thanks for your volunteer work ;D I left a comment below various pictures flagged for deletion that come from the Digital Young Academies, wikidata project. There's been some talk about this in commons and elsewhere so I followed the suggestions and have *not* submitted OTRS requests at the request of our friends at OTRS - and instead uploaded directly from the site of the academy of science (which had a media collector from which the copyright holders/photographers uploaded the pictures to gain a CC-BY-40 license). So this method was arrived at and has been applied for about 1500 other prize-winning scholars: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GlobalYoungAcademyTeam Happy to clarify any questions, I'm also always learning. Thanks.. PPEscientist (talk) 15:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC) 17:231, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Eugene,

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Slym-Peter (talk • contribs) 13:36, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures by PPEscientist

[edit]

Hoi, you have marked a large amount of pictures that have been send by the people involved to the Global Young Academy to be used for this particular purpose. My problem is that it seems that you have marked them all even when there is no issue. The people involved are all scientists, one of the pictures is the dean of a US legal university department.. So I am pretty sure we will get a solution probably other pictures for where this is indeed necessary.

Work is done to get this sorted. But be more precise why an individual picture is deemed deletable. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 12:00, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:09, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • 1938 — 1949
    1938 — 1949
Emblem of the Byelorussian SSR (1926-1937), появился 1926?
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:36, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
1937? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
File:Emblem of the Byelorussian SSR (1926-1937).svg в File:Emblem of the Byelorussian SSR (1937).svg?
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:44, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
А это File:Emblem of the Byelorussian SSR (1927).svg разве не 1927-1937?
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:58, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
File:Coat of arms of Belorussian SSR 1927.jpg, стоит переименовать? User talk:Лобачев Владимир#File:Coat of arms of Belorussian SSR 1927.jpg Валко (talk) 05:12, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:45, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
File:Coat of arms of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (1937–1991).svg, необходим? Валко (talk) 13:22, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:18, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Валко (talk) 13:46, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you erroneously deleting content from Commons?

    [edit]

Do you mind explaining to me why in the world you deleted my upload of a screenshot of the Windows 10 Mobile Home Screen? And furthermore, why did you delete it because "it was a screenshot of unfree content?" The current screenshot on the Windows 10 Mobile Wikipedia page is also of "unfree content," the only difference is that that screenshot is of very poor resolution and should not be used!

I would appreciate it very much that if you have difficulties understanding the English language, and reading descriptions for images, you refrain from playing admin and meddling in affairs not within your skill range.

I want you to restore the image. And, if not, be prepared to be reported. I have no idea what it is you do on Wikipedia, but clearly, it is not to do what is expected of Wikipedia contributors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polancox (talk • contribs) 13:41, 5 July 2020 (UTC) Polancox (talk) 13:43, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am the original uploader. Yea I know they are wikibooks' book. I'm also the original creator of that book. I know all the rules, trust me (I'm active since 2007 and bureaucrat on it.wiki since 2009...) What I'm asking is if you can simply help me to move the *fixed* version of that book to its proper name, deleting the "broken" version of it. That's it. :) Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 14:59, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please explain why PDF on Commons is better then wiki-text on Italian Wikibooks? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:01, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Both are hosted here in Commons, if you check it. This is a PDF version of my book whose text is hosted on Wikibooks. I fixed a graphic glitch on this file, nothing that requires a step forward from version 1.2 to version 1.3. Unfortunately I can't do these things by myself because this PDF's size is greater than 100MB so I can't use the "upload a new version of this file" function, because the new Wizard can't handle file replacing. So I have to disturb other people here and give quite a lot of explainations of why I'm asking to replace a PDF version of my book made by me with a fixed bersion of the same my PDF version of the same my book also made by me. I know I have to give quite a lot of explainations, but this is frustrating... No worries, this is not the first time I have to start a long explaination... :( Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 15:10, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't PDF version of same book generated by MediaWiki? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:13, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm generating it by myself because it has a good (and not automatic) layout of the pages. I'll ask to someone other, nevermind... Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 15:15, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Source filed for my work

    [edit]

I would like to notify you that I filed properly the sources of my three works that you gave me a notice on. Two are derivative work, photographs of historic pieces exposed publicly in churches, both anonymous. The photograph is from 1887 and the portrait is early XX century.

File:Escudo Simeón Pereira y Castellón.png is my own work as a graphic designer in illustrator and photoshop and was properly filed as own.

If coat of arms is based on historical image, it's Commons:Derivative works. I think correct solution will be to put license for original design. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:19, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Hi Eugene, the image isn't based on a historical image, it is based on a description of the coat of arms in Wriothesley's Chevrons Part I by Sir Thomas Wriothesley (C.1525) which I have referenced in description. Will that suffice? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndrewFletcher (talk • contribs) 16:51, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, in this case, it's your own work. But please clarify that image is based on textual description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 12:49, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello,

I am writing with extreme concern over your decision to flag several historical photographs from Carleton University's Wikipedia page that I uploaded several months ago.

I am relatively unfamiliar with how copyright works on Wikimedia, and I am confident that the pictures selected are justified for fair use given that they have been made publicly available by the Archives and Special Collections office at Carleton University on the Internet Archive for several years now: https://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Carleton+University%22&page=4

If this does not satisfy you, I am asking if it is at all possible for you to delay the deletion of the files you flagged on my Talk page so I can seek further clarity from the office itself.

In any case, I would have appreciated a degree of clarity from you as to how I could claim fair use, given that these were taken from digital commons directly set up by the institution itself.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    [edit]

Commons:Derivative works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:19, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:18, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Трудно отнести дизайн, например, File:Lodge of Perfection Pythagoras HCRF.jpg к обычным вещам. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 12:59, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Derivative works? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:53, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:08, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your message to RobiquetGobley 2020/08/11 re to two images

    [edit]

    Hello Eugene

    thanks for hands up

    a) file Theodore Gobley this is a digital version of own family original photographic document, Theodore Gobley being one of my grand-grand-grandfathers ; the original picture is my possession (as you can guess my pseudo RobiquetGobley directly relates to that) I will check how to properly update the license declaration now the WikiMLedia Commons directions applicable to such a case (own family document created 150 years ago) are not crystal clear...

    please don't delete that

    b) file Galabert's canal this is indeed a derived document from the original map by Galabert in French State Archives ; it is modified by myself from a raw copy published by a newspaper in France in 1962 (Revue Pyrénées) ; the copy itself was given me by a local scholar over 20 years ago and only his notes mention the 1962 date which does not appear on the copy itself; the review has probably disappeared as was but may have o continuator of some sort see infra I am quite uncertain how to properly update the license declaration ; I will recheck with the Commons directions and try to contact the publishing review (if still extant; there is one review with a similar name but it may actually be a later phoenix company (Pyrénées Magazine), I just wrote to their Chief Editor

in the meantime, I suggest not to delete it, it may take some time , there is no stake on such a material (of by the way really poor quality) ; now in your hands to decide

    I will keep you updated

Addendum : looking for the original publisher, it comes out it did disappear and all its publishing material has been turned into the Public domain and made web-available by GALLICA in France; I will update the licence to public domain — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robiquetgobley (talk • contribs) 17:31, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Public domain images should have proper public domain tag. You could just edit file description to fix problem.
According to Commons:Copyright rules by territory/France map could not be in public domain.

Hello Eugene I checked on the France rules Map itself is in the public domain, Galabert did it self financed in 1835 so it was his own property, and he died in 1841 I will readdress the public domain tag, not sure I get what is not correct regards RobiquetGobley07:24, 13 August 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robiquetgobley (talk • contribs) 07:24, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Lord Alfred Milner

    [edit]

The pictures nominated for deletion on August 10th & 12th, under my name, are mostly photographs from books, and a few from the internet, that are over 100 years old. Although I reside in the US, and most of the pictures are UK in origin, UK jurisdiction should prevail. Given their age, and the fact that many are in the public domain because they were UK Government property, and as such, exempt from private property rights (I read this somewhere), they will be legitimate once the proper coding is added.

My problem is: 1. I have to verify the source of each of them, and 2. I have to code them right. This is the first time I've uploaded pictures, and everything is difficult. Is there a quick video link of instructions on this that you can send me? I will do my best to change things, put please be patient. Question

    [edit]

I was performing maintenance today when I came across this, Commons:Requests and votes/SterkeBak/Bureaucrats discussion. Was opening bureaucrat chats part of bureaucrat policy previously or did the former bureaucrat open it at their own discretion? I can't ask them as they are not really active right now. 1989talk 13:14, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to recall, since this happened long time ago. In recent times similar questions were discussed in bureaucrats mailing list. Probably this was a time when this mailing list didn't exist. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:21, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Any reason why "bureaucrat chats" aren't made publicly anymore? Shouldn't the bureaucrats feel they should have some type of transparency with the community? 1989talk 13:26, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It may depend on discussed matters. But I don't see anything wrong with discussing matters like in that example publicly. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:28, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? This is the only bureaucrat discussion I can recall happening and it happened over 12 years ago. 1989talk 14:23, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Again it may depend on circumstances. Definitely if personal information would be involved, it's better to limit exposure. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:40, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm focusing on how you and other bureaucrats handle RfA closures, not anything else. 1989talk 14:44, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In most cases formal criteria is good enough. In border cases close to 75% I usually extend voting for week. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:48, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
After that, do you perform a closure based on arguments or vote count? 1989talk 14:56, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I count votes. There is no format criteria for agreements weighting. Serious objections are usually translated into number of oppose votes. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:58, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
EugeneZelenko, I'm concerned about your reply. Although I agreed with the outcome in the Martin Urbanec RfA, I thought it was settled practice that the closing 'crat considers the reasons for votes, with "greater weight given to an argument, with supporting evidence if needed, than to a simple vote". Otherwise, if it's a mere vote tally, a bot could do the close! Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you're saying?  JGHowes  talk 15:03, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A bot would not be enough, because socks, meatpuppets etc. are always possible; people are people (c). That said, an experienced user is necessary to close an RfA. And the meaning of many support votes in this case was not better than of oppose votes; see for example my question to Érico who did not honour me with an answer. --A.Savin 15:31, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please describe algorithm that will translate arbitrary text into vote weight. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:12, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
An algorithm? Taking the guideline at face value, it does say, "the closing bureaucrat has discretion in judging community consensus, and the decision will not necessarily be based on the raw numbers". This indicates, to me at least, that the closing 'crat exercises their judgment in weighing the votes. I'm not trying to be argumentative or critical, Eugene, I just think the guidelines should reflect actual practice. Don't you agree? Regards,  JGHowes  talk 15:53, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A question about my user talk

    [edit]

@EugeneZelenko: To whom it may concern, I noticed that you sent me a note saying that a file that I have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:义务教育阶段初级中等学校毕业生道德与法治学业水平调研 8.png, is a derivative work, and the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work, here I explain to you: the file I uploaded is a screenshot of the document, regardless of whether it is the file or I am the creator of the screenshot of the document. Certainly, the same is true for another file. So what more I shold do and in which file attribute do I have to add the missing information? Thank you in advance! Yours sincerely I'm purine. (talk) 15:11, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, taking screenshot doesn't make you author of original document. See Commons:Derivative works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:57, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see. But what I capture is a screenshot of the document, and I am also the creator of the original of the document. Excuse me, by "screenshots" I mean converting each PDF page into a PNG or extracting all the images contained in the PDF. And I am using macOS and Adobe Acrobat DC. I'm purine. (talk) 01:36, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What is origin of images inserted into documents? Such text documents are out of Commons:Project scope: should be moved as wiki-text to relevant project. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 12:39, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi

    [edit]

Hi. You have the utmost buttons in Commons, together with several other people I guess. I see your name most frequently in deletion requests, this is why I ask your help. Commons is fast turning into an ordinary amateur porn platform. Please do not speak to me about freedom, cencorship etc. Look at this user's contributions. Also look at his user page. His message to the people who visit Commons: "let's date". Is that what Commons is turning into? Four years have passed since upload and this person's disgusting images are still there. I noticed this ... (choose a word yourself) trying to categorize files in category:Unidentified people. I do not know how to make collective DRs. I hope you may take the initiative. Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 02:41, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You could use Help:VisualFileChange.js for mass deletion nomination. I agree that these files have nothing to do with education, but unfortunately some of them are used, so this will be argument against their deletion. WMF tried to create filter for this kind of media, but as far as I remember attempt died because of cries about censorship. Sure, such media should not be added to regular categories. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:18, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I added the common usage tags to Pedro Marquez' portrait and the plaque. These are on Facebook already. I made the copy from a family photograph by scanning. I also drafted the text on the plaque. Pedro Marquez is my great-grandfather on my mother's side.

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 01:27, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:42, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Dear Eugene

You have left a message in my discussion page about this image: File:Plan of Gloucester Cathedral.png The image is extracted from a file already in commons: Comparative Plans of English Cathedrals 411.jpg. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Comparative_Plans_of_English_Cathedrals_411.jpg The extracted image has the same licence as the file already in wikimedia commons. All this is already indicated in the description of the image. If you have ideas how to improve the description of plan of Cloucester Cathedral and reflect this situation better, please let me know. I extracted this image and others from other plans of English Cathedrals because of a discussion in the Spanish Graphic Lab. This one: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiproyecto:Ilustraci%C3%B3n/Taller_gr%C3%A1fico/Peticiones. It was not my own initiative. Thanks for your collaboration. "Heart Sutra.png" is a form of chinese art called character assembly 集字. This has been practiced for over 1000 years. An well known example is 大唐三藏聖教序. The work is to pick characters from calligraphic exemplars of a calligrapher to form a new piece of calligraphic work. The nature is calligraphic rather than textual.

王羲之十七帖.pdf is a piece of calligraphic restoration work by means of vectorization using modern software. 十七帖 is a famous calligraphic exemplar collection. It has been replicated many times over the centuries by stone carving and stone rubbing. Most of the surviving replicas are severely damaged. The pdf is a restoration of the exemplar collection in vector graphics. There is a prologue in the pdf that provides a brief explanation to the work. The front page of the pdf is also a character assembly.

七十帖 is one of the 29 exemplars in the 十七帖 exemplar collection.

This particular logo has non-trivial design. Please read Commons:Licensing. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 01:19, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
