Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:57, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

New version not shown
[edit]Helpme I uploaded an updated version to replace a pre-existing file link on April 19, 2015, and the file's image still does not reflect the update. I still see the older version of the uploaded file. Did I do something wrong when I uploaded the replacement image or do I just have to wait longer to see the file reflect the update?--Ephert (talk) 08:39, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
- I see the new version, so it worked. Did you try clearing your browser cache? Sometimes the problem lies in what your browser shows you; forcing it to fetch the current version helps in that case. How you can clear the cache depends on the kind of browser you use, often it's done by pressing the keys Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+R. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 09:22, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Untouchables of Malabar Kerala Dravidian Australoid.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Info lacking in sufficient detail
[edit]Hello there. You uploaded this image in 2011, but the labelling appears to be lacking in enough detail. The Workii people seem to be a people of North Queensland (although no entry in Wikipedia), and if you google a bit and look at other images, such as this one, they bear no relation to the Ngadjuri people, which is where it had been used, probably assuming the Gilbert River in South Australia. I suspect that it might be River (Queensland), but I haven't dug any further into the Workii group as info is not readily available online and I don't have time for more. Perhaps you could add a note about the location being in Queensland? The photographers (Charles Kerry and John W. Lindt) appear to have worked in Queensland. Cheers.
