File:Portrait of Amy Gordon Grant 1896 by Frank Weston Benson.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks

[edit]

… for your edits! Though I do not think en:Help:Minor edit applies here. I had almost missed them … Cheers, --Marsupium (talk) 22:34, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't you notice that your new file with which you superseded the old file had a strange mistake in it? Some parts of the painting were duplicated. I reverted the file. If you have a version that is indeed better than the old file _and_ intact, please upload again. Thanks. --WolfD59 (talk) 16:55, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hi ! It's because Category:Collection Otto Krebs is a category relevant to the artwork, not to the picture of the artwork, and thus belongs to Category:Portrait de Madame Trabuc and not File:Vincent van Gogh - Portrait de Madame Trabuc.jpg. Léna (talk) 08:19, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Portrait de Madame Trabuc is a wrong category name. --Ekenaes (talk) 19:48, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Normally when you upload a distinct scan/photo of the same work, you should upload it as a distinct file, not overwrite an existing file. - Jmabel ! talk 00:05, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In the area of painting reproductions, it is very common to overload other pictures (most hopefully better pictures). This is a picture absolutely similar in color, possibly originally from the same source. greetings --Ekenaes (talk) 22:17, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you uploaded a file using the name File:Franz von Lenbach 001.jpg. A file by this name already existed on Commons. Overwriting an existing file should not be done except when making minor, uncontroversial corrections, so the file has been restored to its previous version. If the file that you attempted to upload is within our project scope and is in the public domain or published under a free license, please upload it again under a different name. Thank you. For more information, please see Commons:Overwriting files.

Gogol portrait

[edit]

Hi! You added a US PD tag to Möller’s Gogol portrait in [change], but didn’t mention where you found it. I’ve been trying to find a PD source for this painting without any luck - can you remember where you found it published? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robin Whittleton (talk • contribs) 18:38, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand the question. What do you want to find? --Ekenaes (talk) 00:41, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is a fake:

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

[edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

File:Winslow Homer - Playing Old Soldier (1863).jpg - resolution, pixelation

[edit]

Regarding. File:Winslow Homer - Playing Old Soldier (1863).jpg.

The copy downloadable from http://www.mfa.org/collections/object/playing-old-soldier-32873 is definitely 1,000 × 1,321, and not 1,211 × 1,600.

The 1,211 × 1,600 version has clear pixelation / jaggies most visible in the edge of the cap at the top right of the image. Hohum (talk) 01:09, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dorotheum

[edit]

Hi! I've seen Filippo Palizzi - I piccoli caprai (1871), beautiful picture! Please, can you explain to me how to take the image at maximum resolution? Micione (talk) 14:46, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

At Dorotheum, this is only possible for a short period of time. After that, the pictures remain small. Ekenaes (talk) 17:13, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
