Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Greetings!!
[edit]Hiya Eccekevin: Great photos of Notre Dame!! Please forgive that I have to nominate the one artwork and crest for review. The artwork unfortunately is too new, and the United States has no "Freedom of Panorama" (see COM:FOP). I did also fill in a bit on your statue of Father Sorin, "description=Bronze statue of Father Edward Sorin, at the University of Notre Dame. Sculpted by Ernesto Biondi (January 30, 1855 – 1917), unveiled on May 3, 1906." The description is how users find things, it is what is searched by search engines. So if you can, please be highly descriptive? Name of building, street address, location of statue, sculptors, and so on are all ways that an image becomes educational and not just another gorgeous photo.
Another way to add value to Commons images is to put geolocation tags on all your photos!! Here's two things to help:
- http://mondeca.com/index.php/en/any-place-en Use the address to get the Lat/long
- http://tools.freeside.sk/geolocator/geolocator.html Use the Lat/Long to get the Commons tag which looks like : {{Location|41.70557|-86.23534}} It looks like this:
Camera location View all coordinates using: OpenStreetMap Would it be possible for you to upload larger size files with higher resolution than you are at present? Your initial uploads (with the Nikon) are huge; this last batch looks like you might have accidentally processed them to Facebook size? Commons would like the largest possible images you are willing to share. When you reupload your 720x series, please do so right on top of the initial uploads, there's a square below that says something like "upload new version", click that to go to the reupload window and upload the largest possible version of the file.
Please don't hesitate to leave me a message here or at my talk page if I can be of help to you... To get editors' attention very fast type in the message at any location on Commons, it doesn't have to be their or your talk page, it can be at deletion nominations and so on: {{u|Ellin Beltz}} for example and the system "pings" the named user and they get a message in their notifications. That also goes to people's email if they have it set up like that. I am sorry to have had to nominate two of your images on Commons policy grounds, if you can find the source of the crest (online even) showing the copyright, we have seven days to fix that file. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:35, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Flickr uploads
[edit]Please provide the individual Flickr image link in the source field, rather than the photostream link. See File:Morrissey Hall ND.jpg for an example of how I fixed the source link. Click here to see the change in the file history. I've fixed and reviewed the rest of the ND images as well. INeverCry 22:05, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
File:Kyren Kyren Williams.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion. (Reason: likely unintentional license laundering, the reasoning is expanded on when this image was previously at Commons:Deletion requests/Notre Dame Athletics photos credited to TigerNet)

Authorship claims
[edit]
You have claimed to be the author of:
If you have uploaded a copyright violation and the copyright holder wishes to take legal action, you alone are legally responsible. The MediaWiki software keeps information about you which may be shared with lawyers.
Files with doubtful claims of authorship may be deleted, and if you continue to upload files with doubtful claims of authorship, your account may be blocked to allow others to investigate your authorship and licensing claims. Please help avoid unnecessary blocks and deletions by resolving this matter in one of the following ways:
- If the works are indeed your own, please upload high-resolution original files (rather than images scaled down to "web resolution") and clearly label the source of the files as being your own work. Again, you are solely responsible for such claims.
- If any of the files you have uploaded are not your own work despite your previous claims, please tag them with {{copyvio|not my work}}, and they will be deleted by an administrator.
If your account is blocked, you will be temporarily unable to upload files to Commons. In the meantime, please read the licensing policy to make sure the content you upload is allowed. The duration of the block may depend on the number of files to be verified and the findings of the investigation.
