Hello, Dumi!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Image renaming

[edit]

I saw that you tagged a image for rename but your not on the checkpage for the bot (Commons:MediaMoveBot/CheckPage) Please go to the the talk page and put your name up for approval so that the bot can automatically rename your request instead of waiting for someone else on that list to confirm for you. Question regarding rename request for File:Parnassius mnemosyne.hellmanni.jpg

[edit]

Hi Dumi,

In the file rename request you want to change hellmanni to hartmanni. Is that a subspecies? If so should the subspecies not be specified in the image description?

I was considering your request for a rename but wanted to ask you about this first to be sure I understood the reasoning for the rename request. Best wishes, --Slaunger (talk) 21:43, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Slaunger,

sorry to take so long to answer your question, I had some days off. hartmanni indeed is a dark form of Parnassius mnemosyne, named after Mr. Hartmann, hellmanni was just a wrong name that has nothing to do with Parnassius mnemosyne. Thank you for your cooperation--Dumi (talk) 18:02, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you intend to create Category:Hadena perplexa instead of the subject, which is a gallery page? If so, when you make that kind of mistake, after you create the category correctly, add Badname to the page you created by mistake and it will be deleted -- in this case, the tag would be Category:Hadena perplexa. Questions? Ask me here. . . . . Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 13:32, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
