Wikipedia translation of the week: 2022-12
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! Farn-Sasan was the last king of the Indo-Parthian Kingdom, ruling the region of Sakastan approximately from 210 to 226. Literary sources makes no mention of him, and he is only known through the coins he issued. He was defeated in 226 by the Sasanian ruler Ardashir I (r. 224–242), which marked the end of Indo-Parthian rule. (Please update the interwiki links on Wikidata of your language version of the article after each week's translation is finished so that all languages are linked to each other.) Counterfeit Chinese-Korean coins
- "Source" field.
- Chinese Provinces that issued machine struck coins, from 1900s to 1950s. - China has a great history of over 5000 years. It was only the last 100 years when the country fell apart due to its corrupted internal affairs as well as foreign invaders coming into the country, virtually tearing the country apart. It took well over half a century to reunite the messed up country. New coining technology started to infiltrate into the country. Within this short period of time, China has struck virtually thousands of different varieties of coins if you account for all provinces. Some cities or provinces were created, some were dissolved. Find out the dates: "Chinese coins can be a real challenge to collect as Chinese characters may turn off people who find them difficult to read. Dates are dated in sexagenary cycle. For more information, please read here: Sexagenary Cycle." Linked article seems defunct, I believe that I have made a similar table at Wikipedia somewhere. "I have added a table at the end. Even the English spelling of the provinces can be off putting as they were spelt in Wade-Giles. On top of that, with so much counterfeits cranked out every minute, it makes collecting Chinese coins totally undesirable." While I agree with the fact that Wade-Giles is a very ugly and off-putting system it also makes searching for them at eBay for scans more difficult for the Wikimedia Commons as some use the phonetic names and other the dysnetic (dysphonetic?) Names. "However, never assume that genuine Chinese coins are cheap - try looking for a crown size or dollar sized silver coins. Let me know if you can find any undamaged example, (even if low grade) to be sold under 100 dollars. Update: from the middle of 2010, most dollar sized silver coins have struck the 1,000 dollar mark in XF-UNC condition. No comment section present on page, requires e-mail contact which is often difficult due to spam filters. Even during the Republican era some archaic dates remained to be used, especially on overstruck ones. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 09:10, 22 March 2022 (UTC) .

In need of feedback
Hello. I am planning to propose WCommons gets the equivalent to en:Wikipedia:Consensus. Could you tell me what you think of my proposal? Thanks in advance. Here it is:
- I feel en:Wikipedia:Consensus should also apply on WCommons, if not as a policy at least as a guideline (see en:Wikipedia:The difference between policies, guidelines and essays for more precisions on what I mean).
- I would be useful to have this guidelins on WCommons for example when disagreements arise concerning which version of an image should be used or whether an image that complies with WCommons' copyright policies should be kept or not (see e.g. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Hot sex barnstar.png).
- The main difference the version on WCommons would have are:
- Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle takes priority over any consensus; the existence of copyright can however be debated, see e.g. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Epiousion Papyrus 75.png
- Commons:Project scope has more weight than consensus
Veverve (talk) 00:10, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Veverve: , I like the idea of having a single page to explain to contributors (and others interested in "how the sausage is made" to read about the process), in general I don't think that the Wikimedia Commons' definition of "consensus" is different from the English-language Wikipedia's. Regarding the Precautionary principle it always takes precedent over consensus as you can't vote to change copyright laws on this website and difficult cases (like the one you linked) are always going to be based on a realistic interpretation of existing and enforced copyright laws.
- As for the project scope, the thing about it is that the term "educational" is a very vague concept for what one could and couldn't consider to be educational and it's up for interpretation. That is, what one person sees as realistically useful to educate people another would see as not useful. For example, a lot of news articles like those found in Neuroscience News use stock images to illustrate concepts which sometimes include people, however, many contributors here would immediately nominate such images as "out of scope, unused personal images" if they would come across them and the deciding factor would be the admin that closes the deletion request and (s)he will also have his/her biases. In fact, the project scope is essentially one based on the consensus of what users do or don't find to be realistically educational.
- I would say that a wholesale copy of the English-language Wikipedia's page on "consensus" with localisations here and there based on existing policies and guidelines would be a good import. Did you create a draft of such a page yet? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 06:03, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

New code release schedule for this week
- There will be four MediaWiki releases this week, instead of just one. This is an experiment which should lead to fewer problems and to faster feature updates. The releases will be on all wikis, at different times, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. You can read more about this project.
Recent changes
- You can now set how many search results to show by default in your Preferences. This was the 12th most popular wish in the Community Wishlist Survey 2022. [1]
- The Jupyter notebooks tool PAWS has been updated to a new interface. [2]
Future changes
- Interactive maps via Kartographer will soon work on wikis using the FlaggedRevisions extension. Please tell us which improvements you want to see in Kartographer. You can take this survey in simple English. [3]

Wikipedia translation of the week: 2022-13
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! Dummy tanks superficially resemble real tanks and are often deployed as a means of military deception in the absence of real tanks. Early designs included wooden shells and inflatable props that could fool enemy intelligence; they were fragile and only believable from a distance. Modern designs are more advanced and can imitate heat signatures, making them more effective illusions.
