Checklist for Xianfeng cash coins on Wikimedia Commons

”(Cut from PrimalWen.4. / CUT FROM pRINALwEN.4.) Emperor Wen Zong (1851-1861) ruled under the reign title Xian Feng and was on the throne during a very difficult time when the country suffered wars, rebellions, famines, etc.” Note that most of these cash coins should be included in the “Xianfeng Coins” category if they are already included on Wikimedia Commons. Might have to investigate for high denomination cash coins issued by contemporary rebel governments, these cash coins should probably be categorised independently of the Xianfeng coinage category due to them being made by unrecognised governments. The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom already has its own coinage category on Wikimedia Commons.

”The Taiping rebellion (1850-1864) in the south cut off the supply of copper from Yunnan Province needed for coinage. As a result, Emperor Wen Zong's reign was characterized by large coins of high denominations as well as iron coins. The coin at the left is an example of an iron coin from the 1854-1859 period.” This might be best addressed on Wikimedia Commons by creating separate categories for Xianfeng coinages based on their inscriptions... However, I am both too busy and too lazy to do this at present moment. I am not sure if it would be wise to start categorising Chinese cash coins based n their metal content, mostly because this would introduce a lot of work to start retroactively categorising (Southern) Song Dynasty cash coins based on their metal content as well. It might be wise to avoid such categories until I am done with “my retirement plan here on Wikimedia Commons”, conversely, the longer I postpone such categorisation today, the more work I shall have with these iron cash coins tomorrow.

”The inscription reads xian feng tong bao (咸丰通宝) and the Manchu character to the right of the hole on the reverse side indicates that the coin was cast at the Board of Revenue mint in Peking (Beijing). The diameter is 22.5 mm and the weight is 4.7 grams.” Here the Manchu characters are listed, but as no Manchu characters are provided within the text I am unable to currently verify any such mint marks on Wikimedia Commons yet until I will be able to completely add this information myself to the “Xianfeng coinage” article on the English-language Wikipedia. This cash coin is very likely to already be on Wikimedia Commons, I should find the best possible quality images to insert into the English-language Wikipedia “Xianfeng coinage” article.

”This is an example of the large denomination token coinage from the Xian Feng era. The inscriptions on these coins used yuan bao (元宝) or zhong bao (重宝) instead of the tong bao (通 宝) used on the smaller cash coins.”

”The inscription on this coin is xian feng zhong bao (咸丰通宝) and the Manchu character to the right of the hole on the reverse side indicates that it was cast at the Board of Revenue mint in Peking (Beijing). The Chinese characters above and below the square hole on the reverse are dang shi (当十) which means the coin is a Value Ten (10) or a denomination equal to ten cash coins. The diameter of the coin is 37.5 mm and the weight is 22 grams.” Here the Manchu characters are listed, but as no Manchu characters are provided within the text I am unable to currently verify any such mint marks on Wikimedia Commons yet until I will be able to completely add this information myself to the “Xianfeng coinage” article on the English-language Wikipedia. Unlike many other Manchu characters, this one is actually rather familiar to myself.

”This is another xian feng zhong bao (咸丰通宝) coin. The reverse side also has the Chinese characters dang shi (当十) meaning it has Value Ten (10) or a denomination equal to ten cash coins. The Manchu character to the right of the hole is jyi which means the coin was cast at Baoding, Zhili. The diameter is 34.5 mm and the weight is 12.6 grams.” Here the Manchu characters are listed, but as no Manchu characters are provided within the text I am unable to currently verify any such mint marks on Wikimedia Commons yet until I will be able to completely add this information myself to the “Xianfeng coinage” article on the English-language Wikipedia.

”This xian feng zhong bao (咸丰通宝) coin is a Value Fifty (50) as evidenced by the Chinese characters dang wu shi (当五十) above and below the hole on the reverse side. The Manchu character to the right of the hole on the reverse is su indicating that the coin was cast at the Suzhou, Jiangsu mint. This coin was cast during the years 1854-1855. The diameter of the coin is 49 mm.” Here the Manchu characters are listed, but as no Manchu characters are provided within the text I am unable to currently verify any such mint marks on Wikimedia Commons yet until I will be able to completely add this information myself to the “Xianfeng coinage” article on the English-language Wikipedia. Furthermore, the text States: ”The inscription on this large coin is xian feng yuan bao (咸丰元宝) and it is a Value One Hundred (100) as indicated by the Chinese characters dang bai (当百) above and below the square hole on the reverse side.” From what I can tell in current research I have not been able to locate a great number of Baiqian (Baekjeon) Xianfeng era cash coins on Wikimedia Commons, thankfully the Breton / Britannian teacher sir Jean-Michel Moullec lists basic specifications on his images, formidable alternatives have not been freely licensed for usage on Wikimedia Commons, yet. / uploading to Wikimedia Commons, yet. Due to e-mail restrictions I am currently incapable of contacting anyone for OTRS-ticket verifications. These data can help provide a good comparative assessment for the state of Xianfeng era cash coins on Wikimedia Commons. And regarding the origin of this specific cash coin the text has formulated the Following: ”The Manchu character shan on the reverse shows that the coin was cast at the mint in Xian, Shaanxi Province. The coin has a diameter of 52 mm. Large denomination coins were cast at the Kuche mint in Xinjiang Province during the years 1853-1856.” Here the Manchu characters are listed, but as no Manchu characters are provided within the text I am unable to currently verify any such mint marks on Wikimedia Commons yet until I will be able to completely add this information myself to the “Xianfeng coinage” article on the English-language Wikipedia. I am not sure how much work is furthermore required in the collecting of Manchu mint marks both on and off of Wikimedia Commons.

”Xinjiang coins are characterized by a red appearance as is the case with this xian feng yuan bao (咸丰元宝) coin.” These would be standard East-Turkestani “Red Cash coins” or “Hongqian” (“Hung-Ch’ien”). Furthermore, a list of specifications is provided, specifically: ”The denomination stated on the reverse side is Value One Hundred (100) according to the Chinese characters dang bai (当百). The diameter is 40.5 mm and the weight is 21.2 grams.” From what I can tell in current research I have not been able to locate a great number of Baiqian (Baekjeon) Xianfeng era cash coins on Wikimedia Commons, thankfully the Breton / Britannian teacher sir Jean-Michel Moullec lists basic specifications on his images, formidable alternatives have not been freely licensed for usage on Wikimedia Commons, yet. / uploading to Wikimedia Commons, yet. Due to e-mail restrictions I am currently incapable of contacting anyone for OTRS-ticket verifications.

”; PrimalKing. MOVED CONTENT FOR RE-WRITING.” Constated the absence of “The King of Qing Dynasty Coins” on Wikimedia Commons. Though, the ability to find an OTRS ticket (skycodeword: “Tanken”) for any image of this one of a kind Xianfeng Era cash coin, despite images already being readily available on the internet.

File:M&M's promotional sign, Groningen (2017).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Wikimedia 2030 community discussions: Influence our shared future!

Reminder to watch. If the discussion comes to Wikimedia Commons.

From today on to 21 February, the last facilitated round of movement discussions on the Wikimedia 2030 recommendations will be held. I created a dedicated page: Commons:Wikimedia Strategy 2018-20. These conversations offer the opportunity to review the movement strategy draft recommendations, and discuss how Commons community would be affected as well as how well they align with the strategic direction.

Wikimedians across the world have been shaping the 2030 strategy since 2017. The first phase was aimed at establishing a shared strategic direction: that by 2030, Wikimedia will become the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge, and anyone who shares our vision will be able to join us. This vision of Wikimedia’s future is shared by all of us, irrespective of background (such as home wiki, culture, etc.) or contributing model (some of us don’t edit, and yet, do take part in fulfilling the Wikimedia mission).

Wikimedia 2018–2020 is all about recommendations that answer the question: what systemic changes in our worldwide movement are needed to advance this vision? These new draft recommendations are intentionally broad and focused on long-term impact. However, they will inevitably be familiar to many of you. Your previous feedback was taken into account, and the recommendations are based upon both 2017 and 2019 discussions reports.

Since July 2018, a group of more than 90 volunteers from across the Wikimedia movement have worked to produce various drafts of recommendations to support this change. This effort is now reaching its final stage, and we invite you to review and discuss the new strategy recommendations. This final set synthesizes all previous drafts, and will offer a clear and condensed product for your review.

After the discussions, the recommendations will be finalized, and presented at the Wikimedia Summit in Berlin. Soon after that, the implementation phase will begin.

You can learn more about the process of forming these recommendations and the next steps in the Signpost’s text by Risker, and in a dedicated FAQ on Meta-Wiki.

Movement Learning and Leadership Development Project

Hello

The Wikimedia Foundation’s Community Development team is seeking to learn more about the way volunteers learn and develop into the many different roles that exist in the movement. Our goal is to build a movement informed framework that provides shared clarity and outlines accessible pathways on how to grow and develop skills within the movement. To this end, we are looking to speak with you, our community to learn about your journey as a Wikimedia volunteer. Whether you joined yesterday or have been here from the very start, we want to hear about the many ways volunteers join and contribute to our movement.

To learn more about the project, please visit the Meta page. If you are interested in participating in the project, please complete this simple Google form. Although we may not be able to speak to everyone who expresses interest, we encourage you to complete this short form if you are interested in participating!

  • Note that this organisation is of national prominence in the Netherlands. It's wholly suitable to be added on a page at Wikipedia at any time in the future and just because no article of it exists now doesn't meant that none will exist in the future. I may have been too busy attempting to "one-ip/up Gary Ashkenazy's Primaltrek / Primal Trek website in every way", but I am sure that I can expand into other areas of Traditional Chinese culture (TCC) and write about this organisation and the usage and history of Traditonal Chibese Medicine (TCM) in the Netherlands. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:26, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
