User talk:Does44
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

File:Grieves-V2.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Hi,
"Permission granted by Grieves Music, LLC for exclusive Wikipedia use." — that is not sufficient. They need to release it under a free license, which allows also commercial re-use and derivatives and needs to be send to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org . --Túrelio (talk) 09:02, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Understood, thank you for the clarification. --Does44 (talk) 23:08, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Blocked
[edit]You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently uploading media that is in violation of Commons' licensing policy, despite our warnings not to do so, and despite our instructions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{unblock|your reason here}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. See block log.

This is to be seen in combination with the sock PapworthC. --AFBorchert (talk) 10:25, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
Understood. Appreciate the help here. Thank you. --Does44 (talk) 22:44, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Good to see this resolved! BTW, please fix the description of File:Grieves-V2.jpg where you state “Picture via Grieves website exclusive permission for Wikipedia use granted by owner”. This is in contradiction to the {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} license. This is not an exclusive permission for Wikipedia. The CC-BY-SA-4.0 license grants this permission to anyone, even for commercial purposes as long as the terms of the license are met. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 22:49, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Will do AFBorchert, I understand the conflict there. However, looks like I'm still blocked from editing that file File:Grieves-V2.jpg. Could I ask for any insight on the best way to move forward in reestablishing editing privileges there as well? --Does44 (talk) 22:58, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- You should be free to edit. You were possibly hit by a Autoblock but those expire within 24 hours and I do not see any active autoblock concerning you. Make sure that you don't login with the other blocked account as this would trigger another autoblock. BTW, if you edit at the English Wikipedia make sure that you understand and follow the terms of use regarding paid contributions (section Paid contributions without disclosure). See WP:PAID for more information. This is not a problem at Wikimedia Commons per COM:PAID but in the Wikipedia projects. --AFBorchert (talk) 06:37, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Great all seems to be working and File:Grieves-V2.jpg description has been edited. Thank you for the TOS heads up, I was just looking at that and realizing that all of this may have been for naught. Regardless gained a ton of insight and appreciate your help with everything. --Does44 (talk) 21:00, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing the image description! I would recommend to open a discussion at Talk:Grieves where you can tell why File:Grieves-V2.jpg should be favored in comparison to File:Grieves 2014.jpg. But before you do this you should put a statement per WP:PAID on your user page at the English Wikipedia. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 21:30, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
