Hello, Deltawk!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hello, the image is now under speedy nomination as it is still licensed on Flickr as non-commercial. I am trying to hold off deletion for a little bit but I would suggest trying to get it re-licensed as soon as possible. Camaron · Christopher · talk 08:24, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately despite my comments an admin has deleted the image anyway, I have a feeling they did not notice my comments as they forgot to delete the talk page. If you can get this image re-licensed I will be able to ask the admin for it to be restored. I cannot restore it myself as while I am an admin on the English Wikipedia, I am not one on this project yet. Camaron · Christopher · talk 11:19, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To speed things up I have sent Woojoo on Flickr a direct private message as I have an account, we will have to see how he responds. Camaron · Christopher · talk 18:58, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Camaron for your help with the issue and your continual attention to the issue. I've also sent woojoo a facebook message to nudge him to change the permissions. Sorry for all the issues with me uploading an image before the permission were perfect. I appreciate your help with the commons picture and the wikipedia article. Deltawk (talk) 21:16, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, by the looks of it Woojoo is not active on Flickr at the moment (looking at his uploads), hopefully he will return some time soon, or he will get your Facebook message Camaron · Christopher · talk 10:50, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Camaron, Woojoo updated the license picture this morning (in california time). May you ask an admin to have the photo restored? Thank you for your help Deltawk (talk) 17:06, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a message on Lycaon's talk page to request this image be restored. Deltawk (talk) 18:25, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well done on getting the licence changed, I see it has been restored. However Woojoo re-licensed it to less restrictive CC BY, and not CC BY-SA, I have corrected this on the image page. Camaron · Christopher · talk 17:35, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Amador Valley Joint Union High School from Image 12 of Sanborn Fire Insurance Map from Pleasanton, Alameda County, California.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
