First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Dear @Adam Black GB Thanks for the correction. Actually I want to add a picture of the catholic Saint to the article. Unfortunately we don't have any other images of the Saint as well. In this case the only option was to take an image from the published source. If it's a copyright issue what is to be done. Being uploaded to Facebook does not mean that a work is in the public domain, copyright still applies unless the creator relinquishes the copyright or released the work under a free license (such as a creative commons license). You may be able to upload a non-free copyrighted work to the English language Wikipedia under a fair-use rationale, but there are strict restrictions on how fair-use media may be used. Message in response to your request for help on my talk page.

  • Do not use a "shared" account while editing Wikipedia. See w:WP:NOSHARED. Your username "Defendersofhistory" may not be allowed as it indicates a shared account, and thus the block in English Wikipedia will remain. Consider creating a new, unshared account and disclose it for editing Wikipedia.
  • Do not add copyrighted content to Wikipedia. *Any* material copied from internet is copyrighted by default, so unless the author specifically grant permission, do not copy paste into Wikimedia sites.
  • Do not upload photos from internet to Wikimedia Commons. For now, you should only upload photos taken by you. Upload them directly to Commons with full meta data intact, not after uploading to social media.
  • Realize that w:Wikipedia:Competence is required, so take time and learn policies and guidelines first. Do not violate them.
  • If you need any clarification, feel free to ask me. I can also respond in Malayalam.

If you have pictures of churches taken yourself, please do upload the original photo jpeg files directly here using Special:UploadWizard. Photos legitimately taken by you will be accepted in Commons, even if you are blocked on English Wikipedia. See Category:Churches in Ernakulam district for examples. Thank you. It will soon be deleted from Commons as it violates Commons:Copyright rules. Please see Commons:Project scope and abide by it. If you want to add photos of these Churches, then you should go out to these churches and take photos from your phone or camera. Every contributor here is doing it in their volunteer capacity. We share photos of Monuments to Commons to document history and heritage of Kerala. But while doing so, make sure not to violate the Copyright laws of India or the policies of Wikimedia Commons. I hope in the coming days, you will take pictures of churches yourselves and then upload directly to Commons. Only then will those images be accepted here. Thanks and regards. This was a draft page created by me. I asked one editor to review. As it hasn't fulfill the requirements it was declined. But he changed this page to a redirect page, actually it lost all my edits as well . Is it not possible to get back the actual draft. Will I be able to create a new article in same page name. You can retrieve the content from https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aquinas_College,_Edacochin&oldid=1225089320 , but DO NOT reinstate that article in Wikipedia.
I would also suggest you to refrain from editing Wikipedia till you get familiar with the policies. You should also get unbanned first, as editing Wikipedia in any way will be considered as "block evasion". Vis M (talk) 16:15, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The ideal thing you can do is go out and take pictures of churches and upload it to Commons. Do not do any other editing activities here or on Wikipedia as you have been blocked for violating policies multiple times.

കോളേജിന്റെ പേജ് റെഡി ആക്കാൻ സാധിക്കില്ല. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ inclusion criteria ആയ "Notability" guidelines നിങ്ങളുടെ കോളേജ് പ്രാപ്തമാകുന്നില്ല.
