Bird categories
[edit]Hi DKR - thanks for adding your very nice bird photos to Commons! One tip: for categories, we use the scientific name (e.g. Category:Calidris virgata for Surfbird), not the English name, as the scientific names are global in usage, whereas English names are not. It's also worth checking for subcategories, particluarly for birds where there are lots of pics, so e.g. if you add a photo of a flock of Sanderling, then use Category:Calidris alba (flocks), or for the American subspecies of Common Goldeneye, Category:Bucephala clangula americana, and so on. Also, it is best to avoid what is called "overcategorisation": when you add a duck to its species category, you don't also add Category:Ducks as it is effectively a duplicate. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 15:44, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
