[edit]...do not move "Category" pages to non-category titles, as you did when you moved Category:Ralph Townsend to Ralph Townsend. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:43, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- I figured it was worth a gallery. I would have just created a separate gallery but every time I looked up "Ralph Townsend" it redirected me to the category so I wasn't able to create a separate article.CurtisNaito (talk) 01:46, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- But that's not how you create a gallery. Start a gallery page and type in the names of the pictures you want there.
Also, all the Battle of Nanking images you uploaded should have gone into the category Category:Battle of Nanking before you added them into the Battle of Nanking gallery. It's most important that images be properly categorized, in order that people can find them. Categories include all the images connected with a certain subject, while galleries only show images selected by editors. Unlike on Wikipedia, the category is really the basic unit of Commons, not the gallery. (I've put all the images you uploaded into the proper category). - When I read the instructions it said "Enter the name in the Wikimedia Commons "search" box and click "go". If no such gallery exists yet, it will offer the choice of creating one." However, every time I tried typing "Ralph Townsend" in, it just redirected me to the category and I was never able to create a separate gallery.CurtisNaito (talk) 01:58, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'm really the wrong person to ask about galleries, I don't think I've ever created one: my thing is uploading images and making sure they're properly categorized. (An uncategorized image is very hard for potential users to find.) Have you asked at the Help Desk? Beyond My Ken (talk) 02:23, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'll try asking there before I create my next gallery.CurtisNaito (talk) 02:28, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
