Hello, Chase1493!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Recognition of same-sex relationships in Northern America(states).svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Military service - sexual orientation.svg

[edit]

Hello :) According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_people_and_military_service transgenders are able to openly serve in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Can you paint that countries purple on the map? Btw I'm not sure whether Nepal welcomes transgenders in the military. Thank you in advance :)

Hello, after the approval by the Parliament, now also Uruguay recognizes and adopts same-sex marriages. I think it would be helpful to align the picture to this new situation. Thanks and regards.--L736E (talk) 07:42, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Colombia and Uruguay

[edit]

Why you changed Uruguay from yellow to dark blue and Colombia from grey to light green on File:World marriage-equality laws.svg? Uruguay's bill still awaits the presidential signature. Colombia's Constitutional Court did not ordered same-sex marriage legalization. Ron 1987 (talk) 00:45, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Uruguay is correct in dark blue.

Also Colombia should be now dark blue.

File:Adoption rights in europe

[edit]

In your new card to adoption rights, you forgot to mark Portugal light blue. Step child adoptions are allowed in Portugal since 2013.

Slovenia, Portugal and Switzerland are missing in File

[edit]

Stepchild adoptions are also allowed in Slovenia, Portugal and in Switzerland. All three coutries should be marked in light blue. --178.11.188.102 11:32, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes to Switzerland, no to Slovenia and Portugal. When Slovenia voted on the referendum on same-sex marriage, that also included the step-child adoption law; they were repealed. Portugal must be voted upon by the (I believe lower house) and ratified by the President before it becomes law. However, I will change Switzerland. For the others, drop a link showing the contrary in this section and I will happily change them to reflect the current situation :). Chase1493 (talk) 09:09, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We have the opposite in the English article, and I just reverted you w/o seeing this. The maps are pretty bad. Any refs you could supply on the map talk pages, for or against, would be useful. Kwamikagami (talk) 09:02, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Easter Island is not on the world maps

[edit]

I noticed when you updated the world homosexuality and marriage maps that you colored the circle in the southeast Pacific to match Chile, thinking it was Easter Island. However, that circle is the w:Pitcairn Islands, a British territory. (Note how the circle is labelled "pc.") Easter Island is not big enough to appear on the map, and as it is not its own dependency, it does not earn its own circle. Dralwik (talk) 06:38, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah gotcha, sorry about that. I was starting to get irritated by that haha. Thanks for the clarification. Chase1493 (talk) 08:22, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Map update: Slovenia should be darkblue

LGBT Rights in the European Union

[edit]

Thanks for updating this in recent months. I do wonder if replacing the two-letter codes for countries with their full names has made it a rather less attractive? Wdcf (talk) 12:38, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I really enjoy this map in particular. In regards to your query about the code vs. name, I would say that unless you are a native of Europe or studied the region in depth, the codes make identifying the countries more difficult. Croatia for example, is ZR, but the average non-European might not realize that as there is no Z in the name for English speakers. That was my main reason for changing it to full names. Chase1493 (talk) 20:31, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A minor point - not every US state has immediately legalized same-sex marriage. Georgia apparently has, and the four that were sued (Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Michigan) have, but it's still possible for other states to drag their feet at least a little bit longer, until they themselves get taken to court. Smurrayinchester (talk) 15:56, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is true, I was deciding whether or not to go with gold for some of the states, but as we have seen (in the scope of this map) is that while the states can drag, the bans are unenforceable. Chase1493 (talk) 15:59, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blood donation for men who have sex with men.

[edit]

Hi, for the MSM Blood Donation Map could you please add 3 new countries, namely Latvia, Bulgaria and South Korea. (No ban or deferral) Here are their respective sources:
Latvia: [1]
Bulgaria: [2]
South Korea: [3]
Though not especially mentioned, there are no restrictions on MSM donating blood. Thanks! Jedi Friend (talk) 11:13, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
