Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thanks for uploading File:Enslaved_Packshot_PS3.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Enslaved_Packshot_PS3.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Packshots
[edit]No video game covers on Commons, this are not free and fair use material, like in en.wikipedia, is not allowed on Commons. Have you read the first steps tour?? I doubt. Also its quite simple described in Commons:Image_casebook#Covers. --Martin H. (talk) 12:17, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- I understand that and I read the different documentation regarding the publication of game covers, but I actually work for Namco Bandai Games Europe. In that case how can I upload those pictures on Wikipedia, knowing that I have rights and authorizations on publishing them ?
- Greets, --CharlotteNBGE (talk) 12:26, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- First you should not simply use the option "It is entirely my own work" (œuvre personnelle) in Commons:Upload as this is not true. The source will be the copyright holder, the author will be the designer of the cover. Then you require a written permission. The permission must come from someone who is allowed to grant such a permission. We had this in the past here on Wikimedia Commons: An employee of the marketing department or of the support team is likely not in the position to release intelectual property rights of the company to the public or act on behalf of the company as an agent in this field. Provided that the the company even is the copyright holder and not just a licensee to the designer. The written permission must include that anyone, worldwide and not only Wikipedia, can reuse the image anytime for any purpose including commercial purposes under the terms of a free license. --Martin H. (talk) 12:32, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Martin,
- I clearly understand that you have to be strict regarding copyrights and copyrights holders. You ask me to come up with a written permission from someone who is allowed to grant such a permission - but that person is me; I work at Namco Bandai, I therefore represent Namco Bandai for all the actions that I do for the company and have the rights to publicly publish game covers; on Wikipedia or other websites. All the problematic regarding copyrights have already been solved and approved by Namco Bandai Games. Our aim here was to enrich Wikipedia's video games contents with official and direct sources for neutral information such as covers, links and approved contents. Now, it is not imaginable that we have a written permission for each content that could be published on Wikipedia; isn't there an easier way to upload those contents without having to go through complicated and tedious processes for an "official" source ? --CharlotteNBGE (talk) 12:57, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- No, there is no easier way. A written permission is required, see COM:OTRS and above. You can of course include more then one work in one the permission grant. Aditionally I like to repeat that with uploading something to Wikimedia projects you not just upload something to Wikipedia and enrich articles but that you publish something under a free license which is non-exclusive and not limited to Wikipedia. So any permission to publish something 'in Wikipedia' isnt enough. If you are authorized feel free to send the required permission. --Martin H. (talk) 13:12, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- Okay. Thanks for all the information - we do understand what publishing an official picture implies, when we publish a packshot/images on any other website there are the same "risks". However we are not going to get into all the legal details to make those packshots available on Wikipedia.--CharlotteNBGE (talk) 13:37, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
