Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Charlie Foxtrot66!

-- Wikimedia Commons Welcome (talk) 20:30, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:Attentato-via-palestro.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File transfers

[edit]

Hi, please only transfer files to Commons if you are prepared to do proper after care. You are flooding problem categories. Jcb (talk) 00:30, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for the late reply but I've seen you message just now. What do you mean with after care? Charlie Foxtrot66 (talk) 18:08, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You need to check that the files indeed have a compatible license and that the template of that license is correct. You also have to make sure that the 'description', 'author' and 'source' fields are properly filled in and not empty. Jcb (talk) 20:59, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do not transfer files to Commons without proper after care. Jcb (talk) 15:42, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think I always used the same procedure, took the files from Wiki Italy and then moved to Commons according the instructions, and I did it plenty of times. I don't know what wrong is happened with these three pics Charlie Foxtrot66 (talk)

Source and authorship information is missing, there is no creation date, so that we cannot check whether the license is valid and you failed to categorize the files. Jcb (talk) 16:29, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Calogero Marrone.jpg is another example of a recently transferred file, that is has no categories assigned. Furthermore, a date in 2013 is not realistic for a photograph of a person, who has died in 1945. These are just two aspects where clean-up work is required after file transfer; clean-up work that ideally should be carried out by the user transferring the file.
Please allow me to point out the following: To round things off, there is a second image in article it:w:Calogero Marrone that could be transferred to Commons. Once that is done, a new category "Calogero Marrone" could be created (and categorized), to which the two images could be connected. Ultimately, the new category could be linked to the Wikidata-item (Q3650959) for Calogero Marrone; once the new category is equipped with the Wikidata infobox, several categories will be created automatically from information stored in the Wikidata item, like "1889 births", "1945 deaths", given name, and surname.
I hope you can see that there are many more opportunities to make more and/or better use of an image (of a person) transferred to Commons that "just" to let it sit there idle. But all this work of connecting things requires some efforts ...
Best regards, --Archie02 (talk) 16:52, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I have carried out most of the aforementioned work (steps) already. Please feel free to have a look into category:Calogero Marrone to see the result. --Archie02 (talk) 17:03, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I see. The fact is that I'm not expert enough to do the things you ask me to do, for now at least. I often transfer photos from the Italian Wikipedia to Commons and it always goes fine, apart a few cases like this. The 2 pics of Calogero Marrone are on public domain according the Italian law. Now I trasferred to Commons the other pic too as you suggested but I don't know how to do further. I am using them to open a new Wikipedia article. I have seen what you did, now I'll try to add the other pic. Charlie Foxtrot66 (talk)

Hi, I tried to edit the file description but I don't know if I did it good. By the way this file in on public domain according the Italian law. Charlie Foxtrot66 (talk) 17:19, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Please make sure that this is the last time that we have to tag your transfer. I think it's better to stop your transfers completely at this point. Jcb (talk) 17:25, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you really think is better to stop? I already trasferred plenty of files from Wiki.it to Wiki.en and it's almost always went fine, apart a few cases, and I think that I'm giving a help to the project, I don't think I'm making damages and, I repeat, all the files are on pubblic domain according the law of the country of origin. Or maybe I do damage? If you really want me to stop I can also do it, but then will you transfer for me all the regular files that I'll no longer transfer? Maybe is better to teach me how to do better instead of asking me to stop. Charlie Foxtrot66 (talk) 12:33, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that you are not picking up the instructions. Over a year after my first message at your user talk page you are still transfering files without properly filling in the information template, with missing vital information and even with faulty licensing (e.g. File:Calogero Marrone.jpg, where the license states that the author has died over 70 years ago, while no author is given). Every time I have to tag a file, this means that you did not do proper after care, so that the file falls into Category:Images without source. Jcb (talk) 13:52, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Marta Russo.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Maybe I did some mistake while providing informations and I don't know much the US law but this photo, published in Italy, is on public domain according the Italian law. It was probably taken from the driving licence or identity card of Marta Russo and then shared by all the newspapers, indeed is reguraly to see in the article of Wikipedia.it Charlie Foxtrot66 (talk) 10:28, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
