Image Tagging Image:Eganville Bridge (1).jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Eganville Bridge (1).jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - This also applies to Image:Eganville Aerial (1).jpg and Image:Eganville Plaque (1).jpg. --Iamunknown 06:51, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have added in the website source from which these images came, and any copyright information I could find. -- CdnStar 10Feb07
Commons is for freely-licensed media
[edit]CdnStar, I could not find where Image:Eganville Plaque (1).jpg is located. Could you give a more specific Internet address? Regarding, Image:Eganville Aerial (1).jpg, please read Commons:Licensing. One sentence in particular applies to this image: "Note that the License for all aspects has to be determined and mentioned explicitly." That is, because the license of the images is not explicitly mentioned, the image should be deleted.
Remember that only freely-licensed media are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. That is a great thing! Anyone can find excellent pictures to use anywhere; all they have to (in some cases) is give to credit to the creator. This is liberating; now no one has to pay money for licensing content from Getty Images, Bridgeman Art Corporation, or anything, because it's free! But to be free, the license must be explicitly mentioned by the media creator.
One option that you may consider regarding the image from http://www.bonnechereriver.ca/album/album.htm is to contact the organization and ask them to consider licensing their gallery under a free license. If they cc-by or cc-by-sa, they would legally need to know and provide (next to the image) the photographer's name. It would be rather simple. But that is for them to decide.
Please consider reading through the pages in this standard welcome message. I apologize; I should have posted it on your talk page originally. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me here or at my talk page.
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

- Thanks for the info - I actually uploaded them before I realized it would be a problem, and then wondered why I could not delete them. At this point I'll just wait for the seven days to pass by (unless it is possible to have them deleted before then?). I have many more of my own that I'll look through to find appropriate ones. I'll look though the info and links you posted. Thanks again. --CdnStar 22:54, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called CdnStar. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name CdnStar~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
