About deleted files

[edit]

Hello Carlobunnie.

The website criminalbaby.tistory.com says its content is under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, which forbids commercial use. CC BY-NC 4.0 isn't the same as {{Cc-by-4.0}}, under which you mistakenly placed the files. This isn't compatible with Commons license policy : all files uploaded must be "totally free", which includes allowing commercial use. --Titlutin (talk) 21:07, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Titlutin Ah I see. I thought I had used the correct license so my apologies for that. But I'm still confused as to how the previous photo for the page, which came from that very same website, was approved then, if the site doesn't match the license requirements? Carlobunnie (talk) 02:35, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Are you talking about File:Suga at the Melon Music Awards on December 2, 2017.jpg ? It was deleted as well. If you're talking about other pictures, it's possible the other users didn't take the time to check if it was the good license. But pictures from this website shouldn't be uploaded on Commons. --Titlutin (talk) 10:28, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Titlutin Ah no not that one, both of those images titled "Suga at the MMA..." were uploaded by me. I'm referring to the picture that was previously used on the page (File:Suga at SK Telecom fansigning event in June 2016.jpg) before I changed it, which is also being used once again since mine was removed. Under the Licensing info for the photo it states "This file, which was originally posted to 160605 SK텔레콤 팬싸, was reviewed on 28 October 2016 by the administrator or reviewer Chiyako92, who confirmed that it was available there under the stated license on that date." However, the source website's usage notice (dd Oct 26th, 2015) says "In the case of commercial use, it is not possible to make money personally, but it can be used to support...bulletproof boys." I'm assuming what you said above "...its content is under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, which forbids commercial use..." was based on what this sentence says and if that's the case then the current photo should also be in violation unless I have misunderstood something yet again? However, if I contacted the site owner and received explicit permission to use their photos for this article specifically (since the page meets their "support" criteria) would that be acceptable? I'm still pretty new to WC and even though some things are still very confusing I'm trying my best to understand clearly what is and isn't allowed. Carlobunnie (talk) 17:06, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My bad, I didn't notice the website had a policy page. After reading it, I think that all their photos can't be uploaded to Commons, because they say that photos can't be edited, which is something that CC-BY-4.0 allows, so there's a clear contraddiction. You ask "if I contacted the site owner and received explicit permission to use their photos for this article specifically would that be acceptable?": the answer is no. Images containing permission grants only to the Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia, or Wikimedia are considered non-free, and may be deleted. --Chiyako92 (talk) 15:09, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiyako92 I did a little more reading and I'm all clear now on the distinctions between free and non-free content and the appropriate licenses. Thank you for replying/clarifying --Carlobunnie (talk) 05:12, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For the reference such DR should go through DR instead of CSD, for audit trail and future reference. It is also usual practice to make a DR for PCP case. — regards, Revi 18:35, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@-revi Noted. It was my first time doing a deletion request and I thought that was the more applicable route, my apologies for the mistake. Carlobunnie (talk) 18:46, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
