Stroke Order License

Hello again Bryan, can you keep me inform about the advancement of the replacement of the Stroke Order licenses (see also : Template talk:SOlicense).

This being the last task I plan to overview here, its completion will allow me to leave happily commons.

Many thanks,

Yug 04:04, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I have been busy in real life, but I have written the script and am about to start it. -- Bryan (talk to me) 08:38, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

O0O !!!! You did it !!! many MANY THANKS !!! I will check the work soon, again many thanks ! Yug 09:53, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
All done, except those that did not match the naming scheme: see Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Yug/Stroke_order. What should be done with those? -- Bryan (talk to me) 13:36, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
The same. On the images *.red.png page, it is need to delete the current template ({Stroke order} = all the string of character between " {{ " and " }}" ), and to put the SOlicense such as {{SOlicense|*||red.png|}}.
Afterwhat, for the small dozen [other] last pages with very exotics names, I will do it myself.
Yug (talk) 05:28, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
I hope to get around the last ones tommorrow, but I'm still quite busy, so I don't know whether I can make it. -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:07, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

OK ! This (Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Yug/Stroke_order) is perfect, I can manage this myself. In one week all should be in perfect order ;) Thanks for your efficient work ^-^y Yug 05:25, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Euro parliament images

Are you still waiting for something to happen at Commons:Deletion requests/Template:EuroparlTag? It seems to me that enough time has passed to close the debate and that the images should be deleted. JACOPLANE • 13:53, 6 August 2007

Flickr upload bot web interface

When you have uploaded a file using the web interface you get the selection "Upload a new file or return to your uploaded image.". If you want to upload another file you have to enter your user name again. It would be nide if that was filled in automaticly each time you return. // Liftarn

Flickr uploader

Hi, I love the Flickr uploading tool. Some comments though:

  1. It prevented me uploading my 6th image in an hour - whereas it says "The current upload limit is 6 uploads per user per hour." Off-by-one error?
  2. Can this limit be increased for wonderful, trustworthy users such as myself?
  3. Why do you have to click on the link after creating the new image file? Could your tool simply poll the Category:Image pages created for Flickr upload bot without files category? (in any case, it would be good if the initial instruction page referred to the need to click that link, it's easy to miss)
  4. Sometimes the "preview" page gets messed up, with the image appearing over the top of the edit boxes, making it impossible to edit. This is with Opera. If the image was below the edit boxes rather than to the right, this at least wouldn't be such a big problem. Stevage 07:17, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

The following files did not make it, and are past their 15-minute prime:

  — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 00:22, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

The first one did not make it because the user forgot to click on the link. The two others failed credential validation, see [1] [2]. -- Bryan (talk to me) 11:33, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

CD problem

A user who uploaded the scan of a book, created a template for it: Template:Information Die Pfarrkirche in Fulnek… and put it on each of the pages he uploaded, e.g. Image:Die Pfarrkirche in Fulnek… 04+05.jpg. CommonsDelinker marked them all as missing the licence even though there is one in the template. Is this a bot problem or did he make an error with the template? -- Cecil 00:04, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

It would be much better if the license tag is *always* directly present on a description page, and not included through a template. What you just saw was one example of the problems that occur with automated processing and information that is added through non-substituted templates. Thank you for reverting CD. I'll replace {{Information Die Pfarrkirche in Fulnek…}} by {{Information Die Pfarrkirche in Fulnek…}} {{PD-old}}. Cheers! Siebrand 02:32, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

image problem

Some help sought on licensing issues

I've been running across several images that seem to originate on the nl-wikipedia and which appear to have licensing issues. My Dutch is very weak, and I wouldn't know the reputations of people working on nl-wikipedia, and I'm not an admin on Commons, so I'm probably not the one to sort this out. I had left notes for User:Deadstar at User talk:Deadstar#Some help sought on licensing issues, but it looks like he hasn't logged on in a few days. Could I prevail on you to take a look there, since I see you are active? Thanks. - Jmabel | talk 23:39, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I might add, all of this makes me wonder about images like Image:Edward Top met schedel.jpg. The uploader claims to have taken the picture, but has worked only on the nl:Edward Top article; can we really trust this? - Jmabel | talk 23:42, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Image is most probably OK (self promotion). Cheers! Siebrand 23:45, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Minor flickerreviewbot issue

The image: Image:2Hogettes.jpg says that FlickreviewR checked the liscence and that it doesn't match the liscence at Flickr. Yet, the bot notes that the licence is cc-by-2.0 and the liscence on the page is cc-by-2.0? Maybe the bot missed something? Could you check this by hand? Gracias. --Jayron32 01:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Bryan,

  • First: your robotised discussion index update is a very useful tool
  • In your index from the last discussions on Commons:Categories_for_discussion, we see only to which month the last discussion pertained, not the subject --> Should be fixed by now. --Foroa 12:59, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
  • In Commons:Categories_for_discussion, it is quite calm. I think that the major reasons are:
    • If you have a watch on the page and there is a month's change, then you have to open that month for editing, and only then you can put a watch on it and see what new topics are coming up
    • If you have a watch on the month page and there is a new discussion topic, you have to open that topic for editing, and only then you can put a watch on it

So if you are not extremely vigilent, you quickly loose your watching facilities on Commons:Categories_for_discussion without realising it. --Foroa 21:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Image:Gonggi stones.jpg

Hi, Image:Gonggi stones.jpg was uploaded to en.wp by me, after getting permission from the author to upload it under the GFDL. All relevant messages from/for the author have been archived in the OTRS system. User:FlickreviewR has tagged the image with "reviewed-fail". Is there something that can be done to remove that template, please? Thank you. --Kjoonlee 10:54, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Question

I'm working with the author. What licenses are acceptable? How do I get the bot to give it a passing grade? evrik 15:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

The accepted licenses are (Creative Commons) Attribution 2.0 and Attribution ShareAlike 2.0. Remove the old license Flickrreview tag and replace it by {{Flickrreview}} to have the bot re-read the license. If it doesn't work, let me know and I will do the review manually. -- Bryan (talk to me) 18:37, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

PermissionOTRS

Hello Bryan, you have tagged Image:Anjani-Thomas-Blue-Alert-Front-Cover-With-Text.jpg with the PermissionOTRS ticket number. Can you check if the permission is also for Image:Anjani-Thomas-Blue-Alert-Cover-Art-No-Text.jpg please? It was uploaded by the same user, and it looks that the permission should be for both images, see Commons:Help_desk#Source_and_Creator_of_Images. Thank you. --GeorgHH 17:02, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

The permission indeed covers both images. I have added the permission tag. Cheers! Siebrand 18:05, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Re: Lost images.

Yes please, text. But how do you get it? By querying when the FP template was added? I was just using the manual index before. --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 12:18, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey Bryan. Again in English for future reference. Category:Possibly unfree Flickr images contains media that have checked a non-free license the last time FlickrReviewR has checked the image. If earlier a free license has been verified, either by FlickrReviewR or because the media file was uploaded by FlickrLickr (which means instant verification), we manually add the tag {{Flickr-change-of-license}}. However, the file is really free, as, although it has been relicensed, it came to Commons as a freely licensed media file.

I think those media should not be in Category:Possibly unfree Flickr images and I am wondering how we could do that. We could integrate {{Flickr-change-of-license}} into the FlickrReviewR check templates, or, but I am not sure if that is possible, we could make the FlickrReviewR templates "{{Flickr-change-of-license}} aware".

Besides the above case, which takes care of about 95% of the false positive members in Category:Possibly unfree Flickr images (410 category members), there are also OTRS verified permissions in there, own work with references to more restricted licensed media files on Flickr, and files containing permission text on the page description (fewer than 30, I estimate). A possible solution would preferable also take care of these cases, but not nevessarily.

Your comments/ideas? Cheers! Siebrand 12:20, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

DelinkerHelper marking duplicates, even when it knows they aren't...

A user erroneously marked an image as being a duplicate of another, when in reality, the newer image was just a different photo of the same item (compare old and new). I removed the erroneous tag and reverted the editor's changes to the gallery page it had been removed from. However, CommonsDelinkerHelper then came along and acted as if it was a legitimate duplicate, despite the edit summary saying that it wasn't.[6] It even replaced the image in the local gallery page, which caused the same image to appear twice.[7]

Please, if the bot is at least smart enough to know that two images aren't actually exact duplicates, it shouldn't be replacing them en masse. EVula // talk // // 16:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

SOlicense change : feedback after checking

Hello bryan, I checked what did your bot, I seen that he successfully replaced more than one thousand license template. The files have been move from the old categories, to new categories.

But (sadly we have a "but"), the new categories names are not the expected ones, it lack the file format information : i.e. "Tbw stroke order images" should be "Tbw.png stroke order images".

This point is important since we also have SVG diagrams.

So I come here to request a last bot to fix this. The work is

  • to add the file format code (".png" or ".gif") ;
  • according to the image name ("*.png" or "*.gif") ;
  • in the appropriate place in the SOlicense template (see : {{SOlicense|字||bw.png|}} or {{SOlicense|字||bw.gif|}} )

This will then de facto move all the images in the following current (inaccurate) categories (on the left, but full of images), to the accurate ones (on the right, currently empty) :

.png files :

.gif files :

red.png files :

I wrote here all what I think may help you and ease the task. Sorry to give you so much work, and thanks again for your help. Yug (talk) 07:49, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Hoi Bryan,

Yes, if everything goes correct, it will update weekly. Thanks for the flower! Bryan Tong Minh 15:43, 24. Okt. 2007 (CEST)
Yep, thanks a lot! Just two smaller things: The Counter "linkcount" (Links auf Begriffsklärungsseiten) doesn't work right. It should show the number of links at all disambiguation pages, not only the listed. (Before you updated the list, there were about 350.000)
Secondly, it would help us if we also knew other many-linked pages. So, is it possible to list all the pages that are linked up to 100 (instead of 150) times? Would really be great! And thanks again for the work you did for us!
Best, --Aktionsheld 16:43, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
I think it is my german... The 43421 is links to disambiguation pages, but auf probably means from? I can provide the number of links from disambiguation pages if you want. -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:35, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, auf means to. but I think the number is wrong. I think the 43421 Links are only the links to the pages on the list, and not to all disambiguation pages. --Aktionsheld 18:21, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I think, it's not your german but our surprise. Links auf Begriffsklärungen (links to disambiguation) are the (wrong) links from articles to disambiguation pages. So at the moment stands there a number of 43421 links, at the beginning 380363 links, 7 months later 361230 links and now, 2 months later only 43421 links (?!?!). That's why we wonder so much. The idea was, that the number 43421 is the product of the addition of all the links that are listed on this page. I hope you understand what I try to explain. If you cannot understand my english, ask me, please ;o). greeting --Knopfkind 21:54, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, found the problem, will update tomorrow probably. -- Bryan (talk to me) 22:47, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey Bryan! The Link-Problem is solved, but there is another problem. The list says, that the first article (PND) has 4966 links, but I cannot see them on the linklist. Where is the problem? --Knopfkind 15:10, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

It seems to count the links to Hilfe:PND (a page in the help-namespace): [8]. --Aktionsheld 16:25, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

OTRS and the Wikimedia PR department

The Wikimedia PR department manages OTRS, right? Would you please find if anything about http://www.bedroombondage.com/ (clean home page of a sexual bondage site, but do not proceed any further if you do not or cannot legally watch adult-oriented materials) has been logged? I ask this while dealing with w:Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion/2007_October_21#Lorelei7_images. I cannot bring relevant images here while the English Wikipedia deletion discussion is still open. Thank you.--Jusjih 00:30, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Would you please verify if OTRS has the permission statement for Image:Annie3VelmaJohnston.jpg? I cannot find the permission from the source site so I would like to be sure. If I see any similar images with uncertain permission, should I ask you, tag them no permission, or else?--Jusjih 01:04, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Maybe we need a page for these requests, more people than just Bryan have access... I searched for "Annie3VelmaJohnston.jpg" in the body of tickets and did not find anything.... then I tried "bedroombondage" in the body of tickets and also found nothing. Do you have any other text strings that might be useful to search? The email address of someone that might have sent the permission? Anything else that might help find it? As you can see further down that page that there are other versions of that picture: the face of the pope has been extracted from a larger picture. To me that is a case of manipulation, in a sense even falsification. Another example is [9] where Image:Yuan Shikai in uniform.jpg was changed into Image:YuanShika Colour.jpg. Adding color to an originally b&w picture is falsifying that picture since it implies that the original color is known and true, which can not be proven. Other examples of this last issue: [10] where Image:Li_Yuan-hung.jpg was changed into Image:Li Yuan-hung Colour.jpg;
[11] where en:Image:Kao_Lin-wei.jpg was changed into Image:Kao_Lin-wei_Colour.jpg;
[12] where Image:Xu_shichang.jpg was changed into Image:Xu_shichang_Colour.jpg;
[13] where en:image:Yan_Huiqing.jpg was changed into image:Yan_Huiqing_Colour.jpg;
[14] where en:Image:Huang_Fu.JPG was changed into Image:Huang Fu Colour.jpg.
Is there a commons-policy on falsifying pictures? Have there been discussions on this issue? I would really like to see these falsified pictures removed from commons since, in the long run, they may become accepted as true. Can you enlighten me on this? --VanBuren 10:26, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
