Thanks for your message (left on my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/unloveable/). Please feel free to use any of the other photos that have the Attribution-2.0 licence applied to them. There are many photos of toys in sets on my Flickr account.

Hi, can you provide me the page where I made that comment? I can't remember it by heart. However, the general problem with ESA images is that they can only be used for non commercial purposes. This is not what Commons calls free. See Commons:Licensing for more information about free. -- Bryan (talk to me) 13:34, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: Flickr images

Hi! Thank you for uploading images from Flickr. Please be sure that you either upload the original (the largest) version of the image, or that — in case you crop — you crop from the largest version available [2]. Also add the {{Flickrreview}} tag to the image, so that it can be tagged for flickrreview. Thanks, -- Bryan (talk to me) 14:21, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very impressive. Thank you for the largest image reminder; I'd forgotten I could do that. Anyway, I've been adding the category flickrreview, so I hope that would be good for now. Patstuart 14:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We have the rights the use these photos of our artist Juan Carlos Salazar. His photographer, Mrs. Beverly Brosius has given us authorizations to use these pictures for any purpose as long as we give her credits for this. We are trying to improve the article about Juan Carlos Salazar by uploading relevant related to his musical career.

All his pictures have been used on his CD covers becaue of the graning of rights. We also hold the rights to Juan Carlos Salazar's CD's, so we can use the images of the CD covers any way we would want to. We even created his website (www.juancarlossalazar.com), and used the same images we are trying to upload to Wikipedia.

We would like for the page to look more professional and it is more complete. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Ana Briceno LASSARI The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.157.197.171 (talk • contribs) at 23:38, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and sorry for deleting the images. Please understand that we get very many images uploaded; mostly of users who don't know anything about copyrights, so it is very hard for us to distinguish between users who really possess the rights and who not.
I order to prevent such mess in the future, please send an e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, stating that you have all the rights on the covers and want to release them under a free license. You will then receive an OTRS ticket number. If you add the reference to that ticket number to the image description page, people know that formal permission has been received.
Yours sincerely,

Hi, could you please use a sandbox to make big changes to heavily used templates, and then later merge the changes? Because what you are doing now is greatly increasing the m:job queue, see Special:Statistics. Thanks, -- Bryan (talk to me) 15:32, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ooh, shit, sorry, I didn't realise. How much did I increase it by? I was just following WP:BOLD, and I saw that other people had been editing it in the same way I was, and I assumed I wasn't doing anything wrong. Does the new layout work well? That's my main concern. I was worried I'd broke the some code in its rendering, so I was very careful; hence all the minor edits. Could you (if you know what you're doing more than me) give it a look-over? Thanks, and sorry again - Jack (talk) 17:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And, now that (for the first time in a while) I've looked over WP:BOLD, I've seen it saying the rule doesn't apply to templates! Whoops... - Jack (talk) 17:37, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I am happy for my picture to be used on Wikipedia. My father, who had some expertise in marine biology, told me that this was a Cornish Lumpsucker. They occur in this form in the far west of Cornwall (this one was in the bay just north of Cape Cornwall). It might help to say on the Wikipedia page that it is known locally as a lumpsucker, in case people who don't know it by any other name want to look it up. Two bad pics

[edit]

I added the following two pics of Thomas Jones and Muhsin Muhammad because although while I was skeptical about their copyright status the flickr user had listed them as creative commons, so I took him at his word. Wikipedia user Shadow Jester 07 informed me that the flickr user marks copyrighted images creative commons, so I'd like you to delete them. I think these are the only two I've made that error on but if you want to look over my photos I list all of them on my user page and a lot of them still need flickr review anyhow. POTY

[edit]

Bryan - Thanks for your help on this. As you know, I'm still relatively new here and this is the first time I've attempted any heavy-duty multilingual stuff. I can't speak for Alvesgaspar but I for one would appreciate your keeping an eye on how things are going, just in case... One thing I don't understand is why the page Commons:Picture of the Year/2006 has this at the bottom:

[[fr:Commons:commons:Image de l'année/2006]] [[pt:Commons:commons:Imagem do Ano/2006]] [[zh:Commons:commons:每年图片/2006]]

What do those lines do? Are there some pages where I can read up on this? --MichaelMaggs 17:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1 question left...^^

[edit]

Hi, I've got one question left xD

Display image on homepage I want to display Image:Schwan1 db.jpgt ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Schwan1_db.jpg) on my homepage. What must I attend? Please help me! =) Thanks! Jelena

Hi, you must:

  1. Attribute Dickbauch as the author
  2. Write that the image is licensed under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License
  3. Include a link to the GFDL, or preferably host your own version of the GFDL
  4. If you create derivative work (modify the image, etc.) you must license this work under the GFDL

You may also, but are not required, tell the author that your used his image [3]. -- Bryan 13:04, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

How can I attribute Dickbauch as the author? Should I just write under the pic "Photo made by Dickbauch"? Sorry, but my hp is just a few weeks old and I've never made that before... Please help me once more =P Jelena --84.167.119.117 13:53, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can just say "Photo made by Dickbauch licensed under the GFDL" and add a link to the GFDL. I see that this user has permanently left the project, so it is not very useful to leave him a message. -- Bryan (talk to me) 14:36, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much!! =) Bye...(:

Your request

[edit]

I noticed you've uploaded Image:B-17 Love.jpg and I thought I should turn your attention to a common error.
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used in more than one way. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing! -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
[reply]

Sheesh... adding the information after upload took one minute, what can I do? If I put the info in before the actual uploading, I get a lot of odd doubling and a less specific license, and have to change the whole thing anyway. If one minute to insert the description from en.wiki is too long, could you please specify exactly what you'd like me to do? Bishonen 21:55, 29 January 2007 (UTC).\[reply]

Machinist:[3]

[edit]

Could you do me favor and delete this photo? The original photographer was unhappy with the use of it when I informed of it's use on Wikipedia as he said it wasn't an accurate representation of a Machinist (even though he entitled the photo "Machinist at work") as the person was only representing a machinist at a rennaissance festival. Image:Differential.png

[edit]

Why did you delete Image:Differential.png? The log entry reads "Screenshot from the 'Grapher' app by apple", however, the picture shows only a mathematical graph. The application is only used as a tool to create the picture. In my experience, copyright of such pictures rests solely with the creator.

I'd prefer it if you could answer at w:en:User talk:Jitse Niesen as I don't log in here on commons very often. Groetjes, Jitse Niesen 06:36, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was responsible for the request for deletion of this image due to the copyvio, see my comments on en:Talk:Differential equation and en:User talk:Romansanders. I am going to attempt a new image, but im no graphic artist! User A1 07:59, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, this is all a very difficult matter. One can argue that the image shows content, and thus is solely copyrighted by the person who had inputted the data. One can also argue that the creation of the screenshot involved no creativity, and that the copyrights thus fully rest by the creator of the program. This problem could be solved by using an open source program to create the screenshot, such as en:gnuplot. I am however willing to temporarily undelete the image, so that you can upload it to the English wikipedia under the fair use terms. Nobody said that copyrights were easy Bryan 08:51, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After reading User A1's comments, in which he says that the image is included as an example with the Grapher application, I agree that it is a copyright violation. I don't think fair use applies, so just leave it deleted (thanks for the offer though).

Bryan, could you clarify one more thing: did you delete the image because it was included as an example with the application, or would you argue that if I input data in a non-free application and have it generate an image which I then upload here, that image would also be unfree? Just answer here please. -- Jitse Niesen 13:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was in doubt, but I deleted it because it was a screenshot of a unfree application. When in doubt, and especially when a free equivalent could be created, I rather delete than keep it. -- Bryan (talk to me) 14:00, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still, the missing photo

[edit]

Ok, I got that newspaper article bit - it was there by mistake, as a matter of fact. I'm experiencing some trouble in citing my sources and I thought I would have to upload the clippings. I was going to delete it, anyway (although I still don't get the sources part). However, I repeat my question: what about the photo Qwentin2007.JPG? It's mine. I took it. And I want it to be in Wiki. Hi.. Sorry this is the zillionth "Why did you delete my photo" message, but I don't understand why you deleted it and like to learn something more. So: why did you delete the Image:Devin Townsend.jpg which I found on Flickr [here]? As far as I can tell it clearly has Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 license. Doesn't that mean I can freely use it here if I attribute the creator (which I did)? What am I missing here? Thanks! --Mighty Jay 10:09, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for clarifying this! --Mighty Jay 13:16, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I find the copiright of this pictures and I do not found nothing. If you find something write me. Trabajonacho 13:08, 11 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Michael Jordan statue

[edit]

Could you do me a favor and please look over this photo?[7] User:Zirland deleted it previously, I assume because maybe it wasn't labeled correctly. It's definitely listed under a creative commons-attribution license. Thanks in advance. Quadzilla99 23:22, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What about Category:Frank Gehry? Quadzilla99 18:59, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You might as well delete this too:[8] Quadzilla99 23:16, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Milano images

[edit]

I see you have deleted two old Milano pictures ( Filen Milano amfitheater in 1927.jpg er blevet fjernet, da den blev slettet fra Commons af Bryan. Why? The pictures (postcards) is 70 years old and as such they are not protected by copyrights. --Bobby 21:00, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FlickrObamaGMU02.jpg

[edit]

OK, I'm new at this. To eliminate guess work and be sure we get it right the next time, please tell me, will any of the licenses listed here under "own work, best practices" be sufficient to maintain the photo on the commons? I would of course ask the photo's creator to do the upload himself. In case he is not willing to authorize commercial use, do we still have a shot at uploading it at Wikipedia under the Flickr identified cc license? Thanks for your advice. --HailFire 10:06, 13 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Wiki DYK?

[edit]

Could you do me a favor? I started a couple of articles and submitted them for DYK? over on Wikipedia the pics I found haven't yet been checked to make sure they comply with the rules of creative commons. I was told they have to be checked if they are going to be put on the front page of Wikipedia with the DYK's so could you check them real quick and give them the approval. They're flickr pics and fine it should only take one minute:[9][10][11][12] Thanks in advance. Quadzilla99 09:28, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you have a look at Commons:Undeletion_requests#Image:Kirschner-genealogic-map-de.png_and_Image:Kirschner-genealogic-map-at.png? I understand that you deleted it together with the other maps, but I had special permission. Q1712 16:31, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:HabemuspapamPXII.ogg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. -- Bryan (talk to me) 09:57, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-loaded the same sound track again. I don't understand why it was erased since the other en:Habemus papam sound tracks use the same licence and it has never caused a problem. How could there be a copyright on a public anouncement with a standard sentence made in front of a two milliard people crowd? Who am I supposed to pay to have the right to use it? The Cardinal? The Pope? God himself? Švitrigaila 00:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think {{PD-ineligible}} is sufficient. However we do need a source where you have the recording from. -- Bryan (talk to me) 10:14, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't remember with precision. I remeber only I found it on an Italian personnal web site one or two years ago. I took the sound track and I asked the site owner the permission to use it on Wikipedia. He gave me the permission with pleasure, but I didn't use it earlier because it's incomplete and I wanted to find the complete recording. And now I can't remember on what site it was... Stephen Crow photo

[edit]

Hello. You may not remember me as it was some days ago, but i had uploaded the photo of Stephen Crow (the game designer) that you deleted. Sorry it took me that long to check your message on my talk page. I had the photo from the Moby game site. I have to admit this photo can't figure in Wikicommons. I'm only on Wikipedia most of the time, and i wasn't well aware of Wikicommons license policy. I went through some reading meanwhile, so thanks.--Arikel 16:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
