[edit]I want it. Keep up the good work. gren 17:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I try to do the best I can on these, as soon as I can, but I usually do at least 3 or 4 takes before I'm satisfied, and often 20 or more (on a few I've gone over 40, and on one quote I grew VERY tired of repeating there were 146 recordings before I was sufficiently satisfied with the result). Recently I've been adding some background effects ("Spectral averaging" and "Gate and Hold") to make them a bit more interesting sonically, and to better mask some vocal imperfections, but this usually only takes a few minutes, once I have a recording that's okay. My biggest delays have been getting the time to record without interruption, and then being satisfied with my efforts — I have sometimes taken several hours working on just a short statement, before I settle on something in particular, and it is very rare that I do even the short simple ones in less than half an hour. ~ BooKKeeper 17:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Typically I would say they take about a dozen takes before I find something acceptable. Yesterday's quote of Van Gogh only took 4, and todays of Marvell took 12. I think I've done it in only 2 takes at least once, but don't believe I was ever so entirely satisfied with the first take, that I didn't even attempt another. But often it is the comparing and deciding what to use between different recordings takes far more of my time than the actual recording does. There have been quite a few where I wasn't satisfied, but was simply running out of time, and picked the least objectionable clip out of those available. ~ BooKKeeper 08:29, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- There have been at least a few times I did actually use my first take, but sometimes there have been 9 or more takes done, before I accept my first or second take as probably the best I am likely to do, within the time-frames available. ~ BooKKeeper 13:47, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I made a song using your reading of Martin Luther King's quote. Just wanted to let you know, hopefully you're cool with it. Thanks a bunch! Here it is: http://soundcloud.com/als3t/the-nascent-state
