On wikimedia, you asked for deletion but What do you think of this in the FAQ of Mozilla foundation ?

What about use of screenshots etc.?
Approval is not required for the following fair uses of the Mozilla marks:
1. screenshots of our software or our web site in magazine articles or reviews of our software
2. the inclusion of Mozilla browser windows in screenshots of other web sites for non-commercial uses such as web site reviews
3. on-screen displays of Mozilla products in television programs or movies.
You may also use screenshots of Mozilla products in commercial books and publications, both where the products are the focus and where they are not (e.g. screenshots of web pages or emails).

Isn't this description very simular to Fair use, which isn't sufficant. Actually it seems less the Fair use, as they don't allow Commercial use (see 2. of your own quote). The FAQ also states:
Can I modify your logos and distribute the result?
No, sorry. The logo files themselves (e.g. the ones distributed with the apps) are copyrighted, and so making and distributing any derivative works would be a copyright infringement. The logo's also a trademark, and so if the result is confusingly similar to the original, it's a violation of trademark law too.
This however would be required for them to be allowed on Commons.
The logos themselves are the trademark, but the actual logo files are in the domain of copyright. You could release the files under an open source license while maintaining trademark rights. Why don't you do that?
Because it would gain nothing, and lead to far more infringing uses of our marks. In practice, there is no use for the files except as expressions of our trademarks, so the rights associated with an open source license don't add anything.

Sorry, I just forgot something. Many of the Firefox Screenshots also have a Google-Logo in the search field, some other Logos in the Tabs or Bookmarkbar. It is however possible to have Firefox-Screenshots without any Copyvios. --Bluebirch 15:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've asked to Fred Chess who had tagged Image:Firefox 1.0.6 sk.jpg for deletion if he was ok if I delete only the mozilla logo in right-hand corner. He said "yes". Probably because as a linux user, I have only the blue world logo which is not copyrighted and Mozilla foundation say it's allright with it. But it's true as you say that we can't use mozilla logo with the bird as we want. We must insert a sentence like "Mozilla Foundation ©" or something like that. I prefer to simply remove it from the screenchot. What do you think of it ? --Patricia.fidi 22:57, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, that removing the logos is better than an "added ©" (especially since the later doesn't follow our policy). However removing the logos in some cases is a lot of work, since they often have other logos as well (e. g. Google) and in any case it's more work then recreating them. Removing parts of a image isn't nearly as pretty anyways (especially this one). I guess the easiest would be to load new screenshots under the old names and extend the upload notification. As the layout of Firefox didn't change in 1.x.x the exact version no. isn't important. So removing logos is good, in some cases replacing might be quicker/prettier.
P. S.: The blue globe is the "unbranded logo" (for Firefox), which is released under the LGPL/MPL. To my knowledge, only Debian and Derived use it, as well as prereleases from Mozilla (e. g. Deer Park). --Bluebirch 15:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
