It's up to personal opinion whether your significantly-altered version is better than the original, so according to Wikimedia Commons policies, you should upload it as a separate file under a new name. Putting one part of something behind another object and another part of it in front of the same object is what is known as Interlacing; it doesn't have to be accompanied by pseudo-perspective tricks...
