Wikimedia Commons POTY 2010 ineligibility
Bibliophile, You recently voted in the 2010 Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year contest. It appears that you are ineligible to vote, likely because:
- Your account failed the rules, as it was not registered before 1 January 2011, does not have at least 200 edits on any single Wikimedia project before 1 January 2011, is a duplicate account, or an IP address.
- You voted multiple times in Round 2. You may vote only once in Round 2 (the Final).
Your vote has been struck and will not be counted. If this is in error or if you have any questions, please post a query at our Questions page. Béria Lima msg 21:07, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:52, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Hello,
I love your image of the oxen (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cotek_ga.jpg) and I was hoping to use it in a book of my poems that is coming out next summer. I realize it's in the Creative Commons; however, it has the "Share Alike" license, I need to obtain written permission since the publisher would likely not issue the entire book with that license. You will of course be attributed and I would be happy to send you a copy of the book. Please do let me know -- & thanks for the great pics! -Nate nshoks (at) gmail (dot) com Nshoks (talk) 21:18, 14 October 2012 (UTC) |
Hello Nshoks, thank you for appreciating my photo of oxen. It will be a great pleasure for me to see it on a book of poems. :) --Bibliophile (talk) 00:42, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Bibliophile. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Bibliophile~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
