Hello, Bharat bhushan kapoor!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

How to edit

[edit]

Hi Bharat with regards your appeal for help How to edit a page at meta should be useful, the same information applies to all wikis.KTo288 (talk) 21:26, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Text in red and emphasis

[edit]

Hi Bharat with regards to text in red on Commons, and all the wikis for that matter, the red text is not an aesthetic choice to highlight a section of text. One of the great things about Commons and the wikis, is the ability to link between different articles and pages, when an article exists on a topic that exists it appears in blue like this. By clicking on this blue link you are automatically led to that page or article. When you ask the mark up to link to a page that does not exist it shows this by creating a red link.

Of course it is possible to format text with the mark up to appear in different colours, including red, and this can be found here, however except for personal use, such as on your own user page or as part of your signature, it is generally frowned upon for use in article space.

When there is a need to highlight text you can perhaps consider the following

 • Text in bold (which is done by typing this Text in bold)
 • Text in italics (which is done by typing this Text in italics)
 • Text in bold italics (which is done by typing this Text in bold in italics)
 • Underlined text (which is done by typing this <u>Underlined text</u>)

However it would be unusual to put undue emphasis on any particular word or phrase in an article.

Hope this helps.KTo288 (talk) 10:38, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

In which country did you take this photo? Regards, High Contrast (talk) 17:34, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! In India, regards. Bharat bhushan kapoor (talk) 17:57, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I have added a category called "Category:India". If you upload other images of you about India, you can add the same category. Regards, High Contrast (talk) 18:56, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, the much better question shold be: "where" has a photograph taken ;-) "India" was corrected by Devgadh Baria as "India" – and most of the other countries etc. – are "main categories" marked as {categorise}, please read >> Commons:Categories <<, regards, Roland zh 21:02, 4 June 2011
