Wikimedia Commons has an educational purpose, and is not the place to post promotional links or to advertise. Creating articles, userpages, templates, etc. with promotional text is not permitted, nor is the posting of links anywhere on the Commons in an attempt to advertise a website, product, company, person, or organization. Uploading of company logos, press images, and the like in order solely to advertise or use them in promotional material on other wikis is also prohibited, and such images will be deleted if they are found to violate our policies. Recreation of deleted content or continuing to post links or promotional text or files after this warning may result in a block. Thank you for understanding.

Thanks for your message. Can you please help me understand how am I advertising?
Is it because I'm asking to be credited for my images by linking to my website? If that's the case, should I simply change the license type and maybe use CC BY and CC BY-SA licenses?
Would that be a better way?
Thanks again,

To me it's your subpages that were the issue. Subpages are fine but referencing the website moves it outside the scope of Commons and makes it more like Wikipedia. Bear in mind that Commons sole purpose is to host images (media etc) for use elsewhere. Hopefully that is clearer but get back to me if you want more. Cheers Herby talk thyme 09:13, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, make sense. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know what I could change in the future instead of deleting my stuff. As a beginner on WikiCommons it took me the whole day yesterday to create those 2 pages lol.
So now is there anything you can do to bring those pages back to life or do I have to create them again?
Thanks again,
Adrian Best For My Feet (talk) 14:18, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They aren't really appropriate to Commons. As I say really all Commons does is host media for use elsewhere. Thanks Herby talk thyme 14:22, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. Thanks a lot!

Categories

[edit]

Please stop adding categories to your user page that are not user related. It is not appropriate to Commons. You are a person not a foot or a pair of shoes. Herby talk thyme 15:25, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Now I understand. I thought adding categories to the user page will help people find what they're looking for easier but I thiunk I'm starting to understand it better. Thanks for the patience lol

You really do run the risk of looking like a promotional account. Just for your info. Herby talk thyme 15:32, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's not my intention though so I really appreciate your messages trying to help and point me in the right direction! Best For My Feet (talk) 15:39, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Thorogood Trail Crazy Horse work boots.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

File:Best For My Feet Logo.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
