User talk:BeenAroundAWhile
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:53, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Notice of copyright infringement
[edit]Hi there! You've been a very naughty boy and have been very sloppy with specifying licenses. You've set entirely wrong license and wrong license versions. This is copyright infringement which carries potentially massive penalties! You should be glad I'm not a vengeful copyright holder. Next time you upload something, make sure you get the license right. It's of paramount importance here on Wikimedia Commons. Palosirkka (talk) 07:30, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that is just silly and one reason I shall not be uploading any more files to Commons. yours, GeorgeLouis (talk) 07:34, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- I would not get upset by someone who does not really know how to politely tell someone they made a small error and that they corrected it for them. I think this post was just an editor trying to make the point in a silly way that did not work. I would suggest this was biting. Just ignore it and go forward. - I appreciate your message, but I really find that it is difficult to work with Commons. Uploading to the English Wikipedia is just so much simpler. And since I do a LOT of uploading, I find it easier to put my photos there and let others take time to send them to Commons if so warranted. Sorry, but that's just the way I feel. Sincerely, your friend, GeorgeLouis (talk) 19:50, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know what problems you are having with commons uploading but that is your choice. However it often takes quite a long time for images to be moved here, so maybe I will have an occasional look at you enwiki uploads. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 14:59, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

File:Elysian Park neighborhood.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
