Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, BeanMunster!

Welcome BM!

[edit]

Glad you have an account here in Commons. I felt you might gravitate toward Wikimedia Commons rather than the English Wikipedia, as an artist. There are others here who can share tips about digital photography, photoshop and other stuff-- even how to get a press pass to get behind stage to take photos. You now know more here than I do, (in part because I have attention deficit disorder- makes it hard for me to read all the info, and stuff. I'd love for someone here-- you?-- just to tell me how to create a Category, so I can upload for example, photos from Blind Faith, or Cream, or those wonderful Steve Winwood pictures, without having to put them in a category like "guitarists from the UK"! Ditto with the Jack Bruce pics I uploaded this past month. Also, look above to where it says "userpage" in red right now. That is YOUR page, to play with or do what you like. Mainly it is a spot to introduce yourself to the rest of the people curious enough to look. The discussion area, as you see is your talk page, so you can speak to other editors easily. When someone leaves a message, you'll see a note wherever you are working, so you know to check here.
You began here; I began at the en.Wikipedia. (I've done a little at the pt.Wikipedia and the sp.Wikipedia, etc.- most comfortable at those two after English.) REGISTER with the same name at the Wikipedia, and voila! You can choose to have your same username recognized in any language and any kind of wiki on the web. I really recommend it. Finally, note the little buttons above this box. Whenever you answer any message, sign your name with four tildes (these: ~~) or click the little signature icon there. Nice images - nice part of the world :). If I can help let me know - cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:12, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Herby - I noticed you were from these parts. BeanMunster (talk) 16:51, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Beanie! Love it. Anyway, yes, listen to Herby, he's helped me here, as all I do is upload things to Commons here, and don't even know how to do that part 100%!! And then, when you know stuff, you can teach ME! :)) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 18:01, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So...

[edit]

Quite local then :) Nice panos - might be worth you checking out Hugin (google it - it is free), it is rather more advanced than msce (if you haven't already found it!). Particularly with outdoor images geotagging does add to their value - maybe checkout this. It is fairly easy but if you want any further details let me know. Given I've seen three of the four people on your page we obviously have some things in common! Cheers --Herby talk thyme 09:06, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips. I've had a brief look through your latest submissions and I have many questions regarding the correct way to document the image uploads so that they can be found and used easily. I have only just noticed that wikicommons and wikipedia seem to have two different upload areas! I seem to have posted to both. I'll check out those tools - probably when I get to the weekend. Let me guess - Steve, Tull and Fairport? I have some others of old school and contemporary artists to post yet - from Steeleye Span to Alabama 3.
(been away) Nearly but Bill not Steve (& before that tour). Variety is the spice etc so these days it can be quite esoteric. Minor Irish group in village hall a couple of weeks back (Chanter) with such oddities as the Ukulele Orchestra and Spookymen Chorale (& a few others) last year. Pretty varied tastes :)
Images on Commons can be used on any wiki (ie the different language ones) whereas Wikipedia uploads can only be used there so Commons is best honest...:). Cheers --Herby talk thyme 09:22, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brian, I got the following message, and thought you should take part in this disucussion. It's about one of the last photos of yours I uploaded before you became a Commons editor yourself. This was the message:

The picture is out-of-date and contains people who are no longer members of the group. Mattsullivan89 (talk) 21:45, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am the person who uploaded the photo. The photographer, Brian Marks is a registered member of Wikimedia Commons, who is User:BeanMunster. I will notify him of this nomination for deletion. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:48, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Brian! It appears that the record label's A&R represemtative is attempting to edit the article on the Easy Star All Stars-- at least on the en.Wikipedia. While it is permitted --it is grudgingly done so, because it is hard to maintain a Neutral Point Of View (NPOV) in a situation like that. I was surprised to find a request to delete the photo here. The request was to delete on the "grounds" that the photo is of former members. My response to this new editor who asked was to compare the departure of Mick Taylor from the Rolling Stones. Should we delete all of the Mick Taylor photos, just because he left the band?! Insanity. Of course all former members have had roles to play in the history of any band, active or not, even, in addition, their future ecdeavors may require a photo from their past history. The result was a decision to keep! It was only after this new-editor-deletion request that I found that the A&R people were beginning to make changes in the Wikipedia article. Sheesh.. and the second instance that week that I found. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:24, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lovely Userpage

[edit]

Thanks for the kind words about your entry here after I contacted you about your lovely photos. I still enjoy them, and I am certain that the "Fairport Convention" workgroup on Wikipedia are very happy to be able to show them! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:24, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
