Great images
[edit]Dear Baltic-amber-beetle, thank you for your great contribution to Commons. The images are of very high quality and improve our database significantly. However, could u please add categories to your files? Or, add a global category to all your files (The same category accross them all), like "Category:Images from Baltic-amber-beetle" or something.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:44, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:38, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Fossil Image Categories
[edit]Hi Baltic,
Fist I want to thank you for the addition od such wonderful images of arthropods in amber. I would like to explain why I have redirected some of the categories you created to the higher level categories. I also initially sorted the images as far down the taxonomic tree as I could. However the majority of editors for wikiproject: Tree of Life deemed that to be overcategorization and so I have been slowly redirecting the lower categories. Please have a look at the long discussion on the ToL link. I hope you continue to add image to commons. --Kevmin (talk) 20:38, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- As a possible solution to this problem have a look at Category:Klondike Mountain Formation for ideas on how to construct a viable category network for your images. The images are placed as far into the taxo category structure as possible from the identifications, and taxa categories specific only to the formation (in your case to Baltic ambers) are linked to the Category as subcategories.--Kevmin (talk) 21:37, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
