Pay attention to copyright
File:The Big Bang Theory (Season 8 DVD Art).jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thanks for uploading File:SCAHit30Logo.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:SCAHit30Logo.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Ok then. How is every other fucking logo on this shithouse not a copyright violation? I'm fucking sick of citing and copyright violation that isn't actually a fucking violation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awesomeman5555 (talk • contribs) 23:26, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You simply cannot take someone else's work that you have found somewhere online and upload to Commons as your " own work" under a free license. That is a copyright violation and may be considered equivalent to stealing someone else's creative output depending upon intent. A free license means that anyone anywhere in the world can reuse this image in anyway they want, even for commercial purposes, and there's nothing the station can really do about it. Have you been given explicit permission by the station to allow that? If you did not create the logo yourself, then (1) you need to get permission from the original copyright holder to upload the logo as explained in COM:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder, or (2) provide some evidence that the file is in the public domain. Commons does not accept fair use content.
As for the other logos you're referring to, I cannot give you a proper comment without knoting which logo and seeing how it has been licensed. Information about all of the above has been previously provided to you in the other posts on this page. The words highlighted in blue are links to relevant pages where you can get more details. Please look at those pages and if you still have questions feel free to ask them here or at COM:VP/C. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:53, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Every other image I've put up here is in the correct licence but gets removed anyway even though I have put it under the right licence. I thought by putting it under my own work you wouldn't remove it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awesomeman5555 (talk • contribs) 01:36, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot discuss in detail any of the other files you've uploaded because they have been deleted and I am unable to see how they were licensed. You can ask for clarification from the administrator who deleted each file if you want. You can find out who deleted each file by simply clicking on the red file name and look at the "Warning: You are recreating a page that was previously deleted." pink box on the file's page. The name of the administrator who deleted the file will be highlighted in blue. Just from looking at the file's names, these seem to be fair use images which Commons will not accept unless it is clearly shown they have been freely licensed by the original copyright holder.
As for this particular file, it was deleted by an administrator named Jcb. You can ask about it at User talk:Jcb if you like, but Jcb did comment that the file is above the threshold of originality. What this means is that Jcb looked for a way to keep the file by seeing if its design was something too simple to be eligible for copyright protection. Some logos are so simple that their respective elements have been determined by various courts of law to be something ineligible for copyright protection. Determining this can be tricky, however, because it all depends upon the country of origin and their respective copyright laws. Some countries like the US have laws which specify a fairy high threshold of originality whereas others like the UK have established a really low threshold. Assuming that Australia is the country of origin in this case, then COM:TOO#Australia would be relevant. British Commonwealth countries tend to follow British precedents/laws when it comes to copyright related matters and as stated above the UK has a very low threshold of originality. My suggestion to you is to read my post at en:User:Awesomeman5555#Image uploads and consider reuploading the file locally to Wikipedia as non-free content. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:22, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As I tried to explain above, you cannot simply upload files you find online. If Southern Cross Austero holds the copyright on this particular logo and you are not "them", then Wikimedia Commons needs a explicit declaration of consent from them to host this file. This can be sent by email to the address listed in the "No permission since" template. The file will be deleted if it cannot be verified that the copyright holder has agreed to freely license the file. If you are, by chance, Southern Cross Austero then you may send in the required email yourself stating that you agree to freely license the image in a manner compatible with Commons' licensing policy. As stated above, the file will be deleted if it cannot be verified that it has been released under a free license. Whomever sends in the email will receive a reply from Commons OTRS which contains an OTRS number. The email will be placed in a queue for review by an OTRS volunteer. This may take some time since there tends to be a backlog, but eventually if will be sorted out either way. For reference, files which are deleted are not really gone forever, but rather are just hidden from public view and can be easily restored once their licensing has been verified. So, please do not upload this file any more, OK?
I'm hoping you're just confused about Commons various licensing policies, etc and are acting in good faith. Be advised, however, that simply trying all kinds of licensing in the hope that one of them will be OK is eventually going to be seen as disruptive by a Commons administrator, which in turn is likely going to lead to your account being blocked. If you have any questions at all about the copyright status of a particular logo/photo/whatever you find online, it's best to ask for assistance at COM:VP/C. Commons administrators do realize that image licensing is tricky and are willing to help out and advise whenever possible; they will, however, block editors who continue to upload copyright violations despite being advised not to do so. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:41, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi, proper licensing does not just mean that we want you to speak the correct magic words. If you are not the copyright holder of an image, you cannot release it under a free license. Stop uploading copyright violations. Jcb (talk) 11:03, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
