Framed pictures
[edit]Hi Auke,
It's very unusual to put a frame around a picture that you upload to Commons: it adds a design element that would often need to be removed by the next person to use the photo, depending on how it's going to be used. In fact, I'd normally just remove frames if I found them (but of course, because there's a competition going, I'm not going to mess with your pics right now). Just my 2 cents. Nice photos, though! --Slashme (talk) 21:19, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
David, Thanks, all cash donations are always welcome. I'd thought a bit about the frames (as this is how I usually treat photos) and if the style was appropriate for Commons. I concluded that since folk are welcome (encouraged) to do as they please with material they find, there's no reason not to. Admittedly I didn't check if there were rules about this. (Re the competition angle - nah, competitions are the last thing that motivates me. It did, however, make me aware of Wikimedia and SAHRA, and that contributions are welcome.) --Auke Slotegraaf (talk) 06:32, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Great, will probably see if there's a lossless way to trim the frame later on then. I'll make contact next time I'm in the Cape. --Slashme (talk) 01:18, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
