Re: Cricket grounds in historic Cheshire

[edit]

Hi again AssociateAffiliate,

As you requested last month, I checked out the list of cricket grounds in the historic county of Cheshire that were still missing images.

I identified the articles for the following five grounds as currently having no images:-

  • Booth Park Cricket Ground, Toft, Cheshire.
  • Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club, Boughton, Chester
  • Macclesfield Cricket Club Ground, Macclesfield, Cheshire
  • Moss Lane cricket ground in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
  • South Downs Road Cricket Ground, Bowdon, Greater Manchester

Today, I visited all five of the above grounds and have taken a few photos of each ground in that list. Sadly, the weather didn't really co-operate, so some of the photos I have are a little bit dull, but at least we have some images of them now.

I've just got back home now after this "cricket-ground visiting marathon", so I probably won't have time to upload the images tonight. However as I'm off work this week, I will endeavour to upload the images to Commons sometime this later week. I will make it a priority to upload these cricket ground images before I upload any other images. Also, I will write on your talk page again later this week after I have uploaded the images. At Boughton, I was allowed into the VIP balcony of the pavilion, so managed to get some shots from a higher angle there, which was nice.

Many thanks, really appreciate it. AssociateAffiliate (talk) 22:00, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I really enjoyed visiting the various grounds and taking the photos. Thanks very much for the barnstar, much appreciated! I have now uploaded the photos to Commons. You will find them all at the following categories:-

Also note, I have added the "interwiki links" such that when viewing the commons caterories, if you click on "In Wikipedia" -> "English" on the left of the page, it will then take you to the English Wikipedia article corresponding to the images.

I notice there is still one Cheshire article missing photos, this is Ellerman Lines Cricket Ground, Hoylake. I see it is listed as a "defunct ground". I'm pretty sure the ground doesn't exist any more. However, I do frequent a local history forum. Later this week, I will post on there and enquire about the location of this ground. If it's possible at all to locate exactly where this was, then I will visit the former site. I'll let you know if I get anywhere with that line of inquiry.

Cheers, Rept0n1x (talk) 08:02, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:T20 Qualifier photos

[edit]

Hi! Thank you for your kind message. I'm new to cricket so my apologies if the pictures don't really nail the spirit of the sport. I'm only attending the matches that are played at en:Belgrano Athletic Club since it's the only venue close to my house. I won't be able to attend tomorrow matches that are played at the other venues so I will be back on Saturday for the final match. I took some pictures of the main playing field that you can see here: [1] [2] [3]. I'll be sure to take some more with the camera next time. BugWarp (talk) 21:37, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Your pictures are fantastic and really catch the spirit of the sport! It's nice to see associate cricket having some photographic coverage :) The photos of the main playing field are awesome, I'll add them to the cricket section of the Belgrano Athletic Club article. Interestingly, the Belgrano Athletic Club is one of the most historic venues in Argentine cricket. From 1912 to 1938, it hosted six first-class cricket matches, when it could be argued Argentina was one of the better teams outside the Test playing nations. You've taken some good photos of notable Bermudian players too, and in Saturday's match there will be some notable Argentine and Caymanian cricketers playing. I hope you enjoy the match on Saturday and are finding cricket enjoyable! Thanks for taking those photos :) AssociateAffiliate (talk) 22:05, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just finished uploading the last pictures, including the victory ceremony. I'll let you know if I ever get to cover another cricket event in the future. See you soon! --BugWarp (talk) 22:36, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic stuff! Thanks for the photos, I'll try and put some names to some of the faces. If you ever find yourself near the Hurlingham Club Ground or the Lomas Athletic Club, some pictures of those venues would be really appreciated :) Not sure how easy they are to access though, as I think they're private member clubs?
I hope you enjoyed the cricket, even if it wasn't the result Argentina were looking for in that match against the Cayman Islands. I'm not sure when the next cricket in Argentina will be, the national team doesn't appear to have any matches scheduled in the near future. Good chance they will host the next edition of the South American Championships though, but no definitive date for that yet. AssociateAffiliate (talk) 18:07, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I really enjoyed it! Although there are some parts of the rules I still need to understand better.. I've made some good contacts within the Argentine Cricket Association so if we get to host the South American Championship I'm pretty sure I will be there, the only limitation would be my schedule. Regarding Lomas and Hurlingham, yes, they are private clubs so the only chance of getting in is by knowing someone or getting an accreditation to an event, I'll remember your request so we will get it some day. A friend of mine went to Hurlingham when we covered the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics but he only took of Golf, I'll ask him if he has something else, although this is unlikely. Perhaps in the future I can try to cover some club matches if there are enough notable players.--BugWarp (talk) 18:41, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear that! Yeah, there are still a few Laws of Cricket which catch me out from time to time! Fingers crossed your schedule works out, and you get to see a few matches if Argentina host it, which going by who has hosted the last few events, I'd say there's a decent chance. Thanks, would be great to get some photos of them when they host events. I've just had a look at Lomas on Google Maps (https://goo.gl/maps/sJWU62VvyTPvcF2L7) and it looks like they've recently built over their cricket ground with a hockey pitch and a rugby pitch, so no cricket to be seen there anymore! If your friend has some photos of Hurlingham's cricket ground, that would be ace. Thanks again for your photos, I think you've probably doubled the photo coverage of cricketers outside the 12 Test playing nations. And I found out Argentina's Alejandro Ferguson is the longest-serving active international cricketer still playing, since 1994. And there was me thinking it was England's own Jimmy with 21 years! All the best, AssociateAffiliate (talk) 22:27, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chester Road North Ground

[edit]

I took a handful of photos at the County Championship match Worcs v Durham in April but most of them came out blurred, I was using the camera on my phone. The ones worth anything are on Geograph. If you want to translate any of them onto here please do, or let me know which ones if you'd prefer me to do so. FieldOfWheat (talk) 07:34, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
