OTRS tickets

[edit]

for Image:Schoovaerts_Machiavel.jpg, Image:Stirner_Schoovaerts_Mahin.jpg, Image:Rantoele42.jpg

I tried to send email of the drawer to the permission email adress (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org), and also uploaded it as an image. But I 'm afraid this is not yet the good system. What is a OTRS ticket ? How to get it ? Where must we insert it ?

Flickr Image, with creative commons

[edit]

Hi Arria, I have put the image of the chaffinch, Chaffinch 2.jpg, taking it from flickr; I've downloaded it from a user whose all images are self made pictures (taken in his garden), and all are with creative commons. I'm sorry, I had tried to use that tool that automatically gets picture infos from flickr but something went wrong, so I superseded. Now I'm quite busy at work, but in some hours (or a couple of days?) I should get the time to put all the pictures infos. Now the picture is referenced by italian wiktionary, [3]. yo he puesto: la fuente y la fecha (Trabajo Propio realizado a fecha 14/04/2006) y el autor (yo: CGRM). Además, como podrás observar, he colocado el link de mi cuenta en flickr pues me gustaría que la gente que viese mi foto en commons supiese que soy yo (el de flickr).

No se me da muy bien el inglés y no entiendo todo lo que me dice:

It had a flickr link as source, which didn't link to the image itself. If you are claiming as your own work, you should state so and use the Self tag as part of the image. You should also not include watermarks on images you upload here. They will likely get cropped off eventually anyways and lose part of the image. MECUtalk 16:21, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All the images on your Flickr account are marked "No Commercial" which is incompatible with Commons (and Wikipedia and...). When you state "Author:" and link to a Flickr account, it means the image came from there. But you are saying you are the flickr user and so this is your image still. You should state that more clearly on the image page. You should also sign all comments on talk pages with ~~~~. MECUtalk 21:31, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transferring images

[edit]

Hi Arria Belli -

You recently transferred some images across from en:wiki to commons, changing their names when you did so (the two I know of are Image:Clutha River at Albert Town.jpg and Image:Balclutha Bridge over the Clutha River.jpg. When you do that, could you please also edit any articles the pictures appear in under their old names or, preferably, keep the old file names (which weren't ambiguous)? The old files on en:wiki were deleted because the images had been transferred, but because the new image files had different names they were reduced to redlinks in the articles where they were supposed to appear. And because the names were new, it took some hunting to find where the images were. Thanks, 203.100.214.159 00:23, 9 April 2008 (UTC) (en:User:Grutness)[reply]

QI nominations

[edit]

Hello :)

It's not that I carry some grudge against you... ;) But I have some notes about images you've nominated - I've decided that instead of declining them on QI, I'll write here.

  • Image:Malpighia glabra acerola flower 2.jpg
This image is interesting, but flower and part of bark are both in the focal plane - bark is distracting from photo object and I think it should be cropped - at least this part of trunk which is in focus.
Additionally, photo is very noisy. I've noticed that it's typical for Panasonic cameras, but your other shot (Image:Cucurbita pepo - another new bud - Kourou.jpg) is nice and clean - maybe it's due to different ISO setting (200 vs 100). Due to this noise I was ready to decline this image.

These are things I've noticed.

Help needed with the Valued images project

[edit]

As you may have seen, this project is going live for nominations on 1 June, 2008 at 0:00 UTC. Before then, there are a few things to be finished off, and any help you can give will be welcome. The latest discussion is at Commons talk:Valued images candidates#Open action items for Valued images.

When the project launches publicly on 1 June, it will need reviewers who are able to jump in quickly and provide prompt feedback. During those critical first few weeks it will be important to have a decent number of reviewers who are prepared to put in the effort to make sure the first nominations are well-reviewed, as that will set the standard for the future.

Would you help, please, with the final tasks now, and also pledge your help with some reviewing on 1 June and thereafter? --MichaelMaggs 17:08, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

reflecting on things I recently wrote elsewhere

[edit]

You have nominated some interesting images to QI -- I have not been so good at looking at them, in my defense, many of them do not make it to the section where I review things. This is also not a promise that I will make an extra effort to look at those images; it was more like exactly what I said, that I was thinking about somethings that I wrote elsewhere. I try to stay ahead of Dschwens clean up bot, not a difficult race -- 8 days (and images can get an additional 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, depending on the fineness of nomination time) for images that no one has commented on. That being said, sometimes the bot wins the race.

Valued images test review phase has ended

[edit]

Dear Arria Belli,

Thank you for participating in the development of the Valued images project by test nominating one or more candidates. We have used the input from the test reviews to fine-tune the guidelines, process and templates used, hereby hopefully improving the setup.

We have now decided that on June 1, 2008 at 0:00 (UTC), the valued image project will be opened for official nominations. To get ready for the grand opening, we will close down the last remaining open test candidates in a few hours, such that the candidates list pages are emptied and ready.

Since there has been a certain amount of instruction creep over the course of the test review pahse, we have decided that all promoted and declined candidates from the test review phase will be reset to the so-called "undecided" state prior to the opening. This means that test valued image candidate review pages all end up in Category:Undecided valued images candidates and the test sets end up in Category:Undecided valued image set candidates.

The votes from the original test review will be archived in a previous reviews subpage and reset upon renomination.

Although all nominations will be reset, you, as a test nominator, will still have the advantage that each candidate can be re-nominated beginning June 1 0:00 UTC. The votes from the original test review will be archived in a previous reviews subpage and reset upon renomination. Click on the links to the aforementioned categories for instruction on how to renominate.

In addition, the project has decided to re-nominate all candidates, which were test promoted, unless you tell us not to do so on my talk page. Also, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or problems relating to valued images.

I hope, you will also take part in the project once it goes on the air, either as nominator, maintainer and/or reviewer.

Happy editing, -- Slaunger 21:43, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you deleted this image because there was a similar one under another name. The deletion has caused problems on en.wikipedia.org. I am re-loading it. Do not delete it again if you cannot redirect to the equivalent with another name so that the image displays without any problems at all on en.wikipedia.org. I suggest that means do not delete at all, since I see that "What links here" does not check links from other Wikimedia projects. If you wish to discuss, I'm at en.wikipedia.org - I do not log into Commons if I can avoid it. -- -- Philcha (talk) 01:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, Image:Purim greetings.jpg, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote.

If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.  --Mr. Mario (talk) 00:48, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Administrative notice

[edit]
Deutsch

Dear Arria Belli/Two. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you — Mike.lifeguard 16:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

De-adminship warning

[edit]
Deutsch | Español

Dear Arria Belli/Two. I am writing to you to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you

Hello, Arria Belli!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

[edit]

Hello Arria Belli,

I would like to inform you that you lost your adminship here on Commons because you didn't signed the Commons:Administrators/Inactivity_section/Aug-Sep_2009, You're welcome to apply for adminship again in the normal way when you have more time for work on Commons again.

I would like to say that I'm deeply thankful for all the hard work you've done here on Commons, and I'm sure the complete communety agrees with me on this. I would love to see you again as active user, or administrator on Commons in the future.

Dear Arria Belli/Two,

I changed the ID of your File:Knautia arvensis rmll.jpg, because the subject of the photograph is very likely a Scabiosa species and certainly not Knautia arvensis; see File talk:Knautia arvensis rmll.jpg. Best regards -- Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 21:33, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
