Hello, Arkanosis!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Xjump

[edit]

Hello Kriss,

You recently deleted Xjump.png for copyright violation, which surprised me a bit. While I'm neither the author of the image nor the person who uploaded it, I've noticed that it was a screenshot of a game released under GPLv2 (see [1] for example). Isn't this enough for being a free image ? Or is the suppression related to missing information / misattribution rather than to the subject itself (in which case I could take a screenshot myself and upload it to replace the previous one) ?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards — Arkanosis 10:32, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was my mistake. It was caused by wrongly licensed image and wrong description, so it looked like copyrighted game. Feel free to upload it again with correct license. Herr Kriss (talk) 13:30, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, i'll do it soon. Best regards — Arkanosis 14:12, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So, I'm looking forward to reuploading the image, so that I can reuse it on the Icy Tower plwiki article. Arkanosis, thanks for the fact that you intervened. :) Vinyanov (talk) 14:06, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I'll revert the suppression on every wiki having an article on Icy Tower. Best regards — Arkanosis 16:09, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks and sorry for the problem. Have a nice day, Herr Kriss (talk) 17:18, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
