User talk:Anford
Hello Anford,
I am having trouble with the Russian Wiki article about nordic walking (http://ru.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Скандинавская_ходьба&action=history). The history of nordic walking has changed, as I am currently dealing with the plagiarism issues surrounding it, then I know what I am talking about. In 1997 Marko Kantaneva wrote an article called "Sauvakävely", which was believed to be the first documented academically liable evidence of nordic walking, however, little did we know back then that he had in fact copied and based his entire article off of a 1979 handbook by Mauri Repo, a teacher in a school (http://tul.fi/Liitto/InEnglish.aspx) where he used to study. The process is currently on going and will soon move to court, but as I was also deceived by Mark and I simply want to stop his spread of false information ASAP.
Now why I am writing is because some editor in the russian wikipedia keeps removing my edit (not to mention the Russian Wiki needs three (3) checks in the first place, which means Marko article will be approved by the end of the summer if we're lucky. The reason of removal is that my edit is apparently worse (since I remove Marko's picture as well), but the editor refuses to get in touch on the talk page, simply keeps deleting the edits and since I do not speak Russian, it is very hard for me to operate in the Russian Wiki. Oh, but the article is in Russian, I had it translated with my personal funds.
All in all, I thank you in advance and if you have any further questions, then let me know. I eagerly await for your response.
(PS! This message was also sent to other Russian Wiki contributors.)KMuuli (talk) 06:42, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:35, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

License issues
[edit]Hi Anford, I'd like to talk about some of the images you've uploaded. In many cases, the licene tag you use (PD-old) claims that the creator of the image has been dead for over 70 years, yet on the image description page it says that the author is unknown. For example, the ТКУ 33.jpg photo is certainly not old enough for the photographer to have been dead for over 70 years. ТКУ 25.jpg is from 1914, but as the author is unknown it's not clear that the photographer has died over 70 years ago. I think the licensing in these photos will require clarification (some may be PD-RusEmpire, for example), while others like the ТКУ 33 image will unfortunately need to be deleted. I'll be looking at this in more detail later -- if you have any comments or additional information you'd like to add about the images, feel free to post on my talk page or here. - Hi,Jafeluv. Please, see your talk page. Regards, --Anford (talk) 13:09, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
[1] That's good to know. Sorry if the timing caused you extra stress... That was by no means my intention. By the way, I checked your uploads and have listed some that need clarification in my sandbox. Jafeluv (talk) 19:51, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
File:ТКУ 33.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

License & DR
[edit]Hi again! The author wrote me back and agreed to release ТКУ 33.jpg under a free license, so that case is resolved as soon as an OTRS volunteer confirms the permission. (It could take a few days.)
- Hi, Jafeluv! Can I upload new versions of this saber in the file ТКУ 33.jpg, that I've get yesterday from the author? These fotos have more good quality and different perspectives. Or he must give OTRS on each foto?--Anford (talk) 07:47, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Meanwhile, I've opened a deletion discussion for 8 files which have no author or date available for verification of PD status -- you can see the nomination at Commons:Deletion requests/Russian photos with unknown date. If you can find either the publication date or the author for any of these, it would be very helpful in determining whether we can keep them on Commons. Of course, feel free to comment in the DR. After those, I have a few files that will still need to be clarified, but I'll wait until the current DR is finished before nominating any of those. Jafeluv (talk) 23:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- All these fotos (exept File:ТКУ 29.jpg and File:Povalishin_AD.jpg) from my own album (album of my great-grandfather), who worked in the Tver cavalry school in 1901-1917. In 1917 the school was disbanded. As a proof of my words, pls, see:
- File:Povalishin_AD.jpg I got from site. Unfortunately, the article with photo was deleted. Povalishin is my relative on the other line. He died in 1899. Pls, see: Povalishin
- File:ТКУ 29.jpg I got from forum. Again this foto was made before 1917, because Tver cavalry school (ТКУ) was disbanded in 1917.

Copyright status: File:Povalishin 8-35.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Povalishin 8-35.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
