Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Copyright status: File:EGL OpenGL Logo.svg
[edit]Copyright status: File:EGL OpenGL Logo.svg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:EGL OpenGL Logo.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Category moves
[edit]Please read Commons:Categories#Category_names. These moves are not within that policy. Thanks. Rodhullandemu (talk) 18:07, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Do you mean "Kiev" to "Kyiv" changes, or something else? --AndriiDr (talk) 18:41, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. What you've done is changed only part of the category name, introducing a confusing inconsistency. Given that many of the files in those categories are correctly named as "Kiev", that only amplifies the error. Rodhullandemu (talk) 18:44, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the correction. My work is in progress, and some inconsistencies and red links may appear because I'm using the DFS algorithm, but when I'm done it will be fixed. Please give me a link to the category where I have changed only part of the category name.

- Please review your revert here, this district spelled as "Podil" (1, 2, 3), and the fact that you don't like this spelling is not a reason to remove the categorization here. --AndriiDr (talk) 19:05, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- Your categories are red links, which are deprecated. So it's not clear how they fit into any structure. Please create them or revert yourself. Thanks. Rodhullandemu (talk) 19:26, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

- Please move everything back and start a discussion.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:51, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Please let us know when this will happen. We do not wish Commons to be broken for a lengthy period of time. Rodhullandemu (talk) 08:51, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- Ymblanter, the discussion has already taken place, and its result is here. My edits follow the consensus for consistency. What's the point of copy-pasting that discussion here. --AndriiDr (talk) 19:05, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- Wasn't aware of that, because it was on Wikipedia, WHICH HAS NO RELEVANCE to Commons naming policies. There needs to be a discussion here as we are a separate project from en:WP. Rodhullandemu (talk) 19:22, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Your account has been blocked
[edit]Taivo (talk) 08:18, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Oppose Unblock. Two users gave you notice that your moves were controversial, per Commons:Rename a category#Types of renames and you should start a discussion on Commons rather than rely on a decision on Wikipedia. Yet you continued after that advice. You appear to show no understanding of why you were blocked. Simply this: we have ways of doing things on Commons which should be respected rather than ignored. Rodhullandemu (talk) 20:24, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- Your words create a false impression, as if I replace all entries of "Kiev" to "Kyiv". Please don't generalize. I am making changes according to the sources and commonname. This is obvious and there is no reason to create discussions for every move. And if you or anyone disagree with any of them, we can start a discuss each of them. --AndriiDr (talk) 04:02, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- Well, as you've seen from the response you got from myself and another editor, ONE change from Kiev to Kyiv would be controversial and require a consensus after discussion. Your sources and wp:COMMONNAME could be prayed in aid in that discussion, which would generally be about a propsed change from Kiev to Kyiv. If the discussion decides Kiev instead of Kyiv, that would be a huge amount of your work to undo. The problem is also that you continued to make changea after you were invited to start a discussion. That shows a monumental lack of respect for your colleagues here, and that is part of the reason for your block. Rodhullandemu (talk) 07:00, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- Why do you think the same edits became less controversial NOW than they were in October?--Ymblanter (talk) 09:39, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- In addition to Wikipedia and other sources, it was recently decided to change the spelling in Commons, all root categories and many others have already been moved. I see no contradictions in consistency, both then and now. --AndriiDr (talk) 11:26, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- What happens on Wikipedia has little or no influence here. It may be prayed in aid, but that's all. That's because Wikipedia and Commons exist to fulfil different needs. Perhaps you could link to this Commons consensus? Thanks. Rodhullandemu (talk) 11:42, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- On the root Kyiv category talk page. --AndriiDr (talk) 11:46, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
