Animated maps

[edit]

Hi AnEddy11,

I noticed that you have uploaded some animated maps related to COVID19. I was wondering, what kind of script are you using to generate those? Is it possible to share? I'm interested in creating comparable animated maps for US states. Effeietsanders (talk) 00:03, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. I'm afraid that the script I wrote (in Java) was handcrafted for Ireland and could not be straightforwardly modified for other countries. If you have access to QGIS (free) or ArcGIS (commercial), you may use them to create static maps and then stitch the maps together to create animations. These are some resources and tutorials collated by Virginia Tech that you may find useful. The maps I created were much guided by this blog post by Kenneth Field. The script I wrote is useful for automating the map making process but it is specifically for the Irish map and data. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnEddy11 (talk • contribs) 16:35, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
