Pay attention to copyright
File:Main Sanctuary.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hey Martin, I was wondering if you could walk me through how to get this picture licensed. I have the copyrights to the image and I can get that to you. I just need to know how to do this. I am new at wikipedia and just need it for the history section of a wikipedia site that I am creating for a church in Rockford, IL. If you could help me out so this doesn't get deleted that would be awesome! Thank you so much. Amandaallard05 (talk) 21:39, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Main Sanctuary.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Main Sanctuary.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

If you claim own work, you have to send a permission to COM:OTRS. Please do not claim own work if it isn't. -- RE rillke questions? 21:12, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The only thing is I have all of the copyrights to that. Could you help me out by getting this stuff up there? -- 21:13, 14. Okt. 2011‎ Amandaallard05

Yes I can. Ok. For simple text-logos, you can generally use PD-textlogo along with Trademarked if it applies. You can go to the licensing-section of any image description page and correct the license. A list of your uploads is here: Special:MyUploads.
Please also consider evaluating whether your uploads fall into project scope.
If you upload images which are published elsewhere before, follow the instructions on COM:OTRS to ensure that you really have the rights to publish.
If you have a concrete question, don't hesitate to ask. -- RE rillke questions? 21:23, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome thank you. I'm trying to get these pictures up here for a wikipedia page for Rockford First. I have the rights to all of the pictures that I have uploaded. Do I need to have the pastor sign off on those? If so, Do I email the file names or is there specific templates that I need to get a hold of? The thing is with a couple of the pictures they are on some of the internet pages for some of the ministries that run out of the church, but I have the original files for them. I really just need the RF_logo.jpg, groundbreaking.png, and one other one that I am going to upload for the history section of the article. Can you walk me through step by step with this, because this is my first time doing something like this. Thank you so much! I really do appreciate it. Amandaallard05 (talk) 21:35, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First step is now sending an email to COM:OTRS or providing asking the ones who published the image to add a license note to the website that the images are usable under cc-by-sa 3.0 unported license. Alternatively you can prove your authorship by uploading higher resolutions of the images than the already published images have.
If they add such a note to the website you can ask me or someone else by adding Licensereview to the image-description page.
For images which are not in the web and that are your own work, you don't have to send a permission.
If you use the e-mail approach, it could look like that (to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org):
I hereby affirm that I, [(name here)] am the creator and sole owner of the exclusive copyright of
* http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rockford_First_exterior_2.png
* http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rockford_First_Easter_2011.png
* http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rockford_First_Ground_breaking.png
* ...

I agree to publish that work under the free license "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0" (unported) and GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts).
I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws.
I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites.
I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by me.
I am aware that the free license only concerns copyright, and I reserve the option to take action against anyone who uses this work in a libelous way, or in violation of personality rights, trademark restrictions, etc.
I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the work may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

Hello, Amandaallard05!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
