Réponse à l'éléphant

[edit]

Salut, Amiral !

  • Salut, Jebulon!
  • I agree, maybe we need some new blood here, both in the creation and the assessment components! I don't feel very comfortable any more, though I'm making a little effort (in my most discrete and subtle way ;-) ) to influence the forum in what I think it is the correct approach: support only what you think it is the very best works and oppose the others, always trying to explain why. I understand your reserve concerning the so-called "ethnic" portraits and agree that we should be particularly careful when assessing them. But ignoring those photos is even worse, as some of them are really good. Yes, I will try to come back to nominations as soon as Nature permits (with bugs, flowers, etc.) but I very much feel that my "Peters level" ([1]) has been reached for the moment and that I will have to make a considerable effort to improve my technique and inovate my aesthetics. Ouis, on doit le répéter le plus tôt possible! La prochaine année je serais en Belgique pour une conférence sur Gerard Mercator... Alvesgaspar (talk) 17:17, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Dear Alvesgaspar,

On behalf of Educational Publishing House Limited, I am writing to ask for permisssion to use the mosquito photo (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mosquito_2007-2.jpg) (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Culiseta_May_2010-2.jpg) (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mosquito_September_2010-1.jpg) in our English textbooks and relating supplementary resources, including (but not limited to) electronic books, picture cards, etc. for Hong Kong preschool pupils. If we are permitted to use the photo, an acknowledgment will be printed in our book. I look forward to receiving your reply and I'd be very grateful to receive your permission.

Best regards, Serina

Dutch WLM (our discussion)

[edit]

Hello Alvesgaspar,

We had a little discussion a while ago, and you asked me where the dutch winners are. The results are there now see here. And as promised my 250 picture selection for a more wide view (that last 10 will be different for everybodies taste). 250 selection here. Don't know if it's the kind of pictures you expect (and it sure wont be that much better (exception as you said)), but just liked to inform you as we discussed about it some weeks ago.

Mvg, Basvb (talk) 22:35, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, if you are going to take a close look at the 250 selection I would then like to know which ones you think should've won/are suitable for FP or something (just to get some ideas, and maybe I nominate them if I agree :P). Mvg, Basvb (talk) 22:37, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Paris_July_2011-27a.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi Alvesgaspar,

Nice one today, and a good digression from other subjects. The colors match very well with the Commons main page colour theme, in case you had not noticed! Have a nice day, --Slaunger (talk) 07:23, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Auplopus carbonarius

[edit]

I think the Image File:Wasp August 2007-19.jpg shows an Episyron species. It has "hairy" forelegs and white spots on its abdomen which are characteristic for the Episyron genus. Maybe You can check the Image and find out which species it is? --Aiwok (talk) 12:12, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Permission for photo credit

[edit]

Dear Alvesgaspar, Congratulations on your talented photography. I am writing to ask permission to display some of your photos on our non-profit, non-commercial website with the following credit: "Photo by Joaquim Alves Gaspar, WIkimedia Commons" We generally do not have "links" on our website (as Wikipedia licenses seem to require), but would be glad to provide the photo credit. Sincerely, Paul Crawford, www.LightfortheDay.com

Thank you. Your photo of the flowers (Coreopsis July 2011-2.jpg) is beautiful, and also the photo of the lambs in Portugal (Porto Covo January 2008-4.jpg). I will plan to communicate with you when we have set a date for your first photo to be displayed.

I have speedy deleted this as the image was a reupload after being deleted a first time. You may wish to check Special:Contributions/Titit09, the guy was blocked as a sockpuppet. -mattbuck (Talk) 13:48, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome and FPC

[edit]

Hello Alves Gaspar,

Comments Very nice and detailed. Good light and stitch over sea. It is fun to locate the surfers. One photo in the middle has softer focus than the one to the right of it. A seam from sharp to softer focus on a vertical pole ( see annotation) could be improved, but that is nitpicking. --Slaunger 20:45, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've provided a translation now, and, in response to you, explained why I think it is feature worthy. Thanks. --Claritas (talk) 16:45, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your message and the translation. I envy people who can read and write Latin, it would be very useful for my work! Concerning your picture, sorry for not changing my assessment.
