Image deletion warning | Image:Alabama-CrimsonTide.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

SVG Contributions
[edit]Hi Alex43223, it is great that you contributing to Commons by replacing GIF's , PNG's etc with SVG's. However there is one problem. Effectively what you are doing is pasting the the raster file ( PNG ) into the vector file ( SVG ) and by doing it this way, you are not actually converting to SVG. Think of it as me wanting to convert a GIF to a PNG and just placing a link to the GIF in the PNG. To actually convert to SVG, you either :-
1) Have to use the vector program's in-built trace bitmap function
OR
2) If the image is effectively made up of easy to create shapes, use the vector programs shapes to create the new one, for example if there was this image, you could create an SVG Version by creating a star, a few rectangles, triangles etc.
I really don't want you to feel like your contributions aren't welcome, because they are!! It is just the way you go about doing SVG's isn't actually what they are for. If you didn't understand anything I said or would like some help going forward, I would be happy to do so, just go onto my Wikipedia Talk Page ( it is in my sig ) and pose any questions there. Have Fun On Commons !

Copyright violation
[edit]You have used my SVG image, Wiki letter w.svg as base for your own Wiki letter s.svg. I have no problem with that, but you have changed the "license" of the image to public domain from the original GFDL. I ask you to change the license of your work to GFDL. I have no plans for releasing the original image as PD as of now. (Also it would be polite to mention who made the original, instead of claiming it was self-made.) --Jarkko Piiroinen 14:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
File:Smiley-Dancing.gif has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
