Hi Aka, I have discover your great picture, which is today featured. At the same time, I have discover that you used a customized information template to describe it. I undertand why you have done that, but at the same time you break to my opinion the effort to put in a standart form the important infos (license, author, etc...) about commons pictures. So you make the job more complicated (impossible?) for people who want to reused the commons content, and have to parse the image: pages. Best regards. Kelson 11:38, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are so many different image description styles and there is no real standard. My costum template is compatible with the default information template, so I think this is even much better than a free-style description page ;) -- aka 19:52, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You have right, that´s better than a free-style description. But you have wrong, when you say, there is no standart - there is one. Your luck is that your are not technically forced to use it. Best regards. Kelson 17:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is no real standard. The commons are much older than this information template and there has been uploaded many many images before. And even now not more than half or a third of the uploades uses it. But of course, if there will be technically forces somewhere in the future, I'll use it too ;) -- best regards, aka 19:52, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Standardisation

[edit]

Hi Aka, schau mal das würde doch so auch dem Standard entsprechen:

Description {{{Description}}}
Date {{{Date}}}
Source {{{Source}}}
Author {{{Author}}}
Permission
(Reusing this file)
{{{Permission}}}
Other versions {{{other_versions}}}

Please help translating the description into more languages. Thanks a lot!

If you use this image outside of the Wikimedia projects, I'd be happy to hear from you. If you want a license with the conditions of your choice, please email me to negotiate terms.

Internationalization

[edit]

Hey Aka, It's fine by me you want to use your extra column and colors. However I do strongly suggest you adapt to the classnames and translation tags from the normal {{Information}} so that people aren't forced into reading English tags "Description", "Permission" etc. As a proposal I've copied your template to here: User:Krinkle/Aka Information. Changes:

  • Using classname "vevent"
  • Using {{int to provide automaticly translated words for the "Description", "Date", "Source" etc.
  • Using {{ISOdate}} for auto-translated dates (as example: 9 July 2010 )
  • Adding id hooks (such as id="fileinfotpl_perm") for javascript tools. This way for script tools it wont matter which tempalte is used, and will still maintain functionality and standardization technically.

I copied your version over User:Aka/Information. Thank you. -- aka 11:55, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
