Arabic alphabet

[edit]

Hi Ahmad,

I've reverted Image:Arabic alphabet world distribution.png because you haven't demonstrated that the Arabic script is used officially in Burkina, Mali, Niger, or Somalia. Can you provide some references, or direct me to a page that references this?

I have no idea what you mean by "Husa". Arabic is not official in Somalia. It is studied in schools in many countries, not just in Burkina, but that doesn't make it official. What we're looking for is official use of the script in an official language of the country, as is the case for all other green countries on the map.

Thanks, Kwamikagami (talk) 16:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you agree then that the Arabic alphabet is not in official use in Somalia?
Ajami is not the script officially used for Hausa. It's a legacy script, as Arabic is in Malaysia, Tanzania, Uzbekistan, and Turkey. Education, govt. publications, etc. are all in Roman.
I suppose we could have a third shade of green, for historical range: Spain, Bosnia, Russia, the Philippines, etc.
