Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Categorías escudos

Hola Abraham, veo que has empezado a categorizar los escudos en Category:Heráldica municipal de España, pero como puedes ver en esa categoría aparece el aviso de que tiene que estar vacía, y los escudos tienen que ir en las categorías de su provincia, como Category:Coats of arms of municipalities of Pontevedra.

Otra cosa, te recomiendo que los escudos que subas tengan el menor blanco posible a su alrededor, porque al ponerlos en las fichas de las localidades aparecen muy pequeños (por ejemplo Mondariz o Caldas de Reis).

He visto que has realizado un escudo heráldico de Fregenal de la Sierra. Simplemente quería decirte que su necesitas inspiración sobre éste escudo tan peculiar te dejo una copia del mismo ya que el campo del que esá rodeado es diferente al que le has realizado. Retoques para el escudo de La Garrovilla

Hola Abraham, antes de nada quiero darte las gracias por tu labor en la campo de la heráldica. Quería preguntarte que si es posible que realices algunos cambios en el escudo de La Garrovilla, pues según la descripción al escudo le faltan la espada (levantada con su mano derecha sobre la cabeza) y la rodela del Arcángel San Miguel. Asimismo, al arcángel también hay que añadirle sus alas, de acuerdo a su iconografía habitual. Se puede ver en la página oficial de la diputación de Badajoz, aquí. Begonte

En este informe de error se dice que el escudo de Begonte que realizaste coincide con el del Vaticano. Sé que varios escudos incluyen la tiara papal, pero como no he podido encontrar el blasón de Begonte, no pude verificar que sea correcto. ¿Podrías confirmarlo? Estimado señor: un mensaje anónimo en w:Wikipedia:Informes de error informa que el escudo de Becerreá, que ud. ha subido (), contiene en su diseño un perro, mientras que en el escudo original, que se puede consultar en la página del Ayuntamiento de Becerreá [1] se puede ver claramente una becerra. Es una verdadera lástima, porque el perro había quedado muy bonito, pero sería bueno que lo reemplazara ud. por un diseño más ajustado al diseño original.

Crear bandera de La Garrovilla

Hola Abraham, como autor de la imagen en formato .svg del escudo de La Garrovilla te pedí hace más de un año que hicieses unos retoques en el mismo, algo que cumpliste estupendamente, y me gustaría pedirte otro favor: que elaboraras la bandera de la misma localidad. Las instrucciones oficiales están en este documento del DOE, en la segunda página arriba a la izquierda, y dicen así: «Bandera cuadrada, roja, campeando en su centro el escudo municipal». Mi nombre es Tomás y trabajo en el ayuntamiento de Beariz. he visto que en el artículo sobre Beariz has incluído un escudo que no se corresponde con el oficial. He propuesto que se ponga en su lugar el oficial y te propongo que corrijas el tuyo para que se adecúe al oficial que tiene su explicación heráldica que te pongo a continuación. El modelo oficial en varios formatos está alojado en la web del ayuntamiento de Beariz http://www.beariz.org/mapas3.php DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ESCUDO DE BEARIZ

Escudo mantelado en punta. En el 1º, de sinople, cinco llamas de gules en sotuer.

En el 2º, de azur, brazo de monje, al natural, empuñando báculo de oro y acompañado de dos lises del mismo metal y de una mitra abacial, al natural; brochante sobre brazo y báculo, banda ajedrezada de plata y gules.

En el mantel, de gules, media luna de escaques de oro y sable, surmontada de dos veneras al natural.

Al timbre corona real cerrada.

JUSTIFICACIÓN:

En el primer cuartel las llamas aluden al fuego de las fraguas y fundiciones, actividad desplegada en el municipio, al hacer aprovechamiento de los minerales de estaño, principalmente, tan abundantes en los montes del término municipal.

Las armas del segundo cuartel son las de la Orden del Cister de la Congregación de Castilla o de la regular observancia de San Bernardo en España. La cual agrupaba a los monasterios de Galicia, lo mismo que a los de Castilla, León y Asturias. La procedencia del escudo cisterciense se relaciona con el Monasterio de Acibeiro, en Tierra de Montes, del cual dependió Beariz como Encomienda del mismo hasta la desamortización de mediados del siglo XIX.

El último cuartel presenta las armas del Cabildo de la Catedral Compostelana de quien dependió eclesiásticamente hasta el año 1954, desde cuya fecha pasó a formar parte de la Diócesis de Ourense.

Hola, este escudo no es el oficial de Ejea de los Caballeros, por eso rogaría que lo borrase ya que se incluye en las páginas de Ejea y de Javier Lambán cuando no es un escudo "verdadero".
