User talk:3dball~commonswiki
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -guety 01:18, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
SL Map
[edit]The map of the Stockholm underground system belongs to the Storstockholms lokaltrafik AB and is not public domain. Thuresson 03:02, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
To make this a little clearer: all images that are not very old or explicitely released into the public domain are copyrighted. It is not necessary to write that somehwere, it is the default. Also note that the fact that an image is easy to get has nothing to do with this, otherwise all images on the web would be PD - that is not the case. Copyright lwas are there to protect the rights of the creatore especially in cases when the image is easily accessible to others. Please only upload image which have been released by the creatore explicitely under a free license or into the public domain. Please read Commons:Licensing carefully. Thanks! -- Duesentrieb 16:36, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I do not live in sweden, but I know that all works are copyrighted by default in all of the EU. Note that "you can get it for free" indicates "free" as in "free beer", not "free" as in "free speach", ahich copyleft is all about. You can get lot of things for no mony, but your are not allowed to use them commercially - which is required for all images on the commons. Again: you can get all images on the web "for free". This does not mean they are PD. If you find a statement that those images are in the public domain (because they are work of the government or something), link to it and the image is ok. If you find just nothing, the image must be considered to be non-free. Write them an email asking about the exact status, especially about commercial use of derivative work. -- Duesentrieb 18:03, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Ok, if you asked them - find. But it would be good to have this in written form somewhere, for futute reference. Also, did you explicitely ask about commerical use and derivative work? And who did you ask? The girl on the counter does probably not know exactly what she is talking about. Best, write an email and post the relevant sections here.
Sorry to be picky abouot all this. Please keep in mind that free content is what keeps wikimedia running, and there are just a lot of people the belive that "PD" is the same as "I founf it on the web somewhere". -- Duesentrieb 19:21, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called 3dball. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name 3dball~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
