Please do not overwrite files

I noticed that you uploaded a file using the name File:阪神尼崎駅北口.jpg. A file by this name already existed on Commons. Overwriting an existing file should not be done except when making minor, uncontroversial corrections, so the file has been restored to its previous version. If the file that you attempted to upload is within our project scope and is in the public domain or published under a free license, please upload it again under a different name. Thank you. For more information, please see Commons:Overwriting files.

Please excuse me for writing to you in English - I can read Japanese but I feel more comfortable communicating in English.
I read your comment at User:小田急4000系ファン#私の写真のマナー (必ずご確認ください) and I apologize that your files were split without prior notice. But the general policy at Commons is to upload new files with new names, instead of overwriting existing files. You should only overwrite files if you are making minor edits or corrections to existing images.
Although you do retain ownership of images with a Creative Commons license, you are forfeiting a lot of the control, including usage and edits. But more importantly, the mission of Commons is to give users of all Wikipedia projects access to as many useful images as possible. For example, you might prefer a newer version of a certain rail vehicle, another user might prefer an older version. Keep in mind that your photographs can be used on non-Japanese Wikipedia. So it could be disruptive to other users if you overwrite an image that's already in use elsewhere. It also creates additional work as categories based on date (i.e., Category:November 2023 in rail transport in Hyogo prefecture or Category:Japan photographs taken on...) need to be corrected. I acknowledge that this creates extra steps for you, the most community-friendly way to update an image is to upload a new photo with a new title, and then edit the Japanese Wikipedia article to show the new photograph.
Thank you for contributing your photographs to Commons and Adeletron 3030 (talk) 18:14, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

小田急4000系ファンさん、上記については迷惑かけました。こちらも今後は気をつけるので、ご協力よろしくお願いします。 Thank you for updating your user page note and sorry to trouble you with the image splits. I’ll do my best to communicate more going forward and I appreciate your collaboration. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 16:49, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

アップロードされる際のファイル名についてお願い

[edit]

File:阪急阪神1dayパス.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello, 小田急4000系ファン!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
