File:മലബാറിലെ നായര്‍ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി (1914).jpg

[edit]

--Dr Ajay Balachandran (talk) 15:15, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are not supposed to edit my user page. You must add your messages only on my talk page. Anyway I don't take it seriously since it may be due to your inexperience. So I am moving your above message to here.

Now, regarding the image. I strongly feel it is the image of a Tiyya or Pulaya girl rather than a Nair girl. You have named the file as "മലബാറിലെ നായര്‍ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി (1914).jpg" which is the Malayalam of "A Malabar Nair girl (1914)". Another user can upload the same image with some other descriptions like "A Tamil Vellala girl" or "A Kurichia tribal girl". The image does not contain any caption. This is why I call it insufficient source information. There is no evidence that this is a photo of a Nair lady. You must provide a source which proves that this is actually a Nair girl's image. If you can't do so you must either rename the image to avoid the term "Nair" (നായര്‍) or the image will be deleted shortly.--വിക്കിപീഡിയ മുതലാളി (talk) 17:06, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One of the places where the picture is availabe is here http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/search/controller/view/impa-m34296.html?x=1341208029432

The original caption of this historic photograph is "Najermädchen v. Malabar." It has been translated to ""Nayer girl from Malabar." in the USCDL. The same caption is there in the British library archive where I got the original picture from. I have accurately translated it as "മലബാറിലെ നായര്‍ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി". If someone else uses a description that it is that of a Tamil Vellala girl or a Kurichia tribal girl, then that description would obviously be inaccurate and would be liable to removal. This description is NOT INACCURATE and I have met the wikimedia commons requirements of accuracy. --Dr Ajay Balachandran (talk) 06:16, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Besides, you dont have much ground to stand on from where you can lecture me about proper wikipedia etiquette, judging from the language you used on my talk page. --Dr Ajay Balachandran (talk) 06:16, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
