I think this animation [1] is more of a crunch than a sit-up so I've moved it from the Wikipedia crunch page to the sit-up page. Nice animation though. As instructed (talk) 16:23, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mohamed Ouda!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:ArWikimedia_egypt_logo.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. File descriptions

[edit]

Hi, Mohamed! Is it alright if you add Standard Arabic and Egyptian Arabic descriptions to File:Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Cairo-2.jpg and File:Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Cairo.jpg? Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 02:03, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome :) - The Egyptian Arabic (arz) descriptions would be the same as the Standard Arabic (ar) ones, correct? WhisperToMe (talk) 17:32, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok - I posted the arz descriptions with the note they are the same as the ar.
Would it be alright if you looked through Template:Requested_translations#English_to_Egyptian_Spoken_Arabic ? For the ones that have Arabic, which ones have descriptions that are the same in arz as they are in ar?
WhisperToMe (talk) 18:20, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rabaa massacre

[edit]

Hello Mohamed Ouda. Thank you for uploading the images of Rabaa deaths made by Asmaa Anwar Shehata. I would like to use them for the German articles (de:Blutbad in Kairo und Gizeh 2013, de:Staatskrise in Ägypten 2013/2014 (Kabinett Beblawi), and de:Staatskrise in Ägypten 2013/2014) dealing with the mass killings of August 14th. Since I could not find any further information about the images, I want to ask you, whether you can tell me, whether we know, when and where the fotos have been taken? Do the images of burned bodies show people, burned at the field hospital? Do we know anything more about them? Greetings from Germany,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 21:52, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Anglo-Araneophilus, the photos are taken in 14 August 2013 from Al Eman mosque where most of the dead bodies moved to it , and yes the burned bodies are burned in the field hospital fire . --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 13:59, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your quick response and information. I know, the date had already been given and anyway I should have known, it was Wednesday, because one day later the bodies already have been covered in bags and cooled with ice as many videos and photos show. But it makes these picture even more worthy, if they show the situation on August 14th, so it is good, you gave this explicit confirmation. I read, more than 200 have been stored in Al-Iman (uncounted by officials then), but when I see pictures like these of August 15th, I wounder whether the real amount of victims has been reported at all. Daud Abdullah's Middle East Monitor stated videos were claiming they were "approx. 700". If you allow, I will add place and date and a link to your answer to the image information of the pictures. Thank you very much indeed again. Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 08:03, 9 April 2014 (UTC) + --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 08:24, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , yes sure you can add the info to the pictures , and also the author of the pictures have many other images you can find them on flicker , and you can request from her any other photo to wikipedia if you need, and she will be welcome --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 09:03, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you, I did not know her flickr-page. I can't read Arabic letters. The lists are showing the names of the vitims stored in the mosque? Her images are unbelievable. If there was no Guardian's Patrick Kingsley (and maybe a few others), I would know similar pictures only from social media. In Germany most people I know have no imagination of what happened in Nasr City and at Nahda square - and so I did not until I started to write about it and to search in internet. Many articles in German as well as in English Wikipedia are - as far as I can judge until now - clearly biased against Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. But I won't contact her because I don't act outside of Wikipedia. I do not send emails, nor I use accounts of social media. But I tried to find information in the already available media. I hope others will complete the work and add the still unknown side. Thank you for your efforts! Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 10:39, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But I linked her flickr-page in the German article de:Blutbad in Kairo und Gizeh 2013 in the paragraph "Weblinks", so her images will be available there even without uploading them. Does "مجزرة فض اعتصام رابعة العدوية صبيحة يوم الأربعاء 14 - 8 - 2013" mean "Break-up massacre of the Rabia-Adawiya-Sit-in in the morning of Wednesday, August 14th, 2013" or similar (I ask to create a correct caption for the link in the German article). Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 10:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC) + --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 11:21, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Anglo-Araneophilus, yes exactly "مجزرة فض اعتصام رابعة العدوية صبيحة يوم الأربعاء 14 - 8 - 2013" means "Break-up massacre of the Rabia-Adawiya-Sit-in in the morning of Wednesday, August 14th, 2013" , and I am ready to any other help in translation if you need --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 08:27, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is a noble offer of yours and I would use it very thoughtfully. There is indeed one problem I have got with translation. Generally I use sources in English and German language and without any skills I'm not trying to understand Arabic sources, but I would like to provide a map (see here for German or here for English version) in Arabic letters and language, showing the places of Cairo's most important mass killings and crack downs happened after the military coup in 2013. I started to search for Arabic names of the places, but I can't read them and therefore I expect lots of mistakes in the preliminary and incomplete list. If you could help with correct place names in Arabic I would appreciate it a lot. But this is of course a question of time and I do not expect anything. Thank you for your kindness anyway. Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 09:16, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , I translated and corrected all the Arabic names now . and I want to thank you for your effort in this map, and I wish to see it in Arabic --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 22:29, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe not this very weekend, but as far as possible I will try to do it. Thank you so for your help! Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 16:15, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Mohamed Ouda, a first draft of the Arabic map based on you translation is available now. Sorry when I should have caused errors. In case of major corrections please contact me or post at the file talk page. I will do them as soon as possible. Minor corrections can be collected first and I will correct them later together. Thank you very much for the translations! Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 01:08, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , thank you so much for translating the map , it is amazing . --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 10:30, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Mohamed Ouda, and it was you, who did it. Meanwhile I finished a slightly extended and somewhat modified version of the English map. It had to be done, since I did not mark the place of the July 27 killings (so-called "Nasr road clashes") correctly before. I didn't manage to prepare the translation chart yet, but I intend to do it next (don't know when exactly). I'll adapt the German version as well and if you want to "help" (that means: to do it) again, I will actualise the Arabic version the same way. I am sorry the mass killings of January 2014 are still missing, but there is a lack of suitable information - at least I did not find enough good sources. But I am happy we've got an Arabian version now. I hope it helps interested readers to get an spatial overview. Greetings, --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 16:09, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed, I wrote "boarder" instead of "border" in the map's legend. If you see further mistakes, I'll be glad, when you let me know them. Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 16:16, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Mohamed Ouda, may I ask, why we know, that all (five) photos were taken in the Al Eman mosque? I ask because I've read this and compared the five photos, which have been uploaded in WP Commons, with those published in Asmaa Shehata's album page 1 and page 2. For me it seems, that the both of our five photos showing burnt bodies were taken in Al Iman mosque (look at the typical red floor in some of the pictures of the series in flickr). But I also wonder, whether those three other pictures showing "dead bodies" (not burnt, I mean) could have been taken in the Rabaa field hospital (note the presence of medics and the grey stone floor). Or just in a different room than the other pictures? In the above mentioned testimony she writes she was taking photos in (Rabaa) field hospital first. I know I can ask her directly. But as mentioned before I'm not going to do that. That's why I ask you again. Greetigs,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 16:48, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , sorry for the late reply , I asked Asmaa and she informed me that yes the other three pictures are taken in the Rabaa field hospital --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 22:16, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Mohamed Ouda, thank you a lot for reply, it was quick by the way. Thank you for the confirmation by the image author. This was an important point in my eyes. I won't ask more now. I've finished my edits in German articles due to the lack of time I'll have got in the next months of 2014. I am sorry I won't be able to check the ongoing development systematically. The latest news from my beautiful country is that following to Shadi Hamid and others also German scientists start calling the current regime dictatorship now. It was a long way to reach that point. I wish you the best. I wish the same for Asmaa, too. --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 12:24, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Asmaa Shehata's Rabaa photographs in LL's GP article

[edit]

Hello Mohamed Ouda, I don't know whether you have some time and are still active here. But because you already helped me before, I'd just like to ask another time for your help. Of course I understand, when you can't or don't want to respond to this request. But let me try:

In Louisa Loveluck's GlobalPost reconstruction of the Rabaa massacre she exlicitly presented some photographs of Asmaa Shehata, referring to her as an eye witness in the makeshift field hospital. On flickr.com it is (above: LL's caption or description):

"Asmaa Shehata photographs medical workers sewing up the wound of a Morsi supporter in Rabaa's field hospital. Egypt's interior ministry initially claimed that no live ammunition had been used in dispersing the protesters.":
"A medical worker looks up. Asmaa Shehata, mentioned above, captured this image in between photographing the corpses in Rabaa's field hospital as the violence progressed.":
"Images taken by Asmaa Shehata, mentioned above, show men rushing injured demonstrators to medical care.":
And Louisa Loveluck described another of Asmaa Shehata's photographs: "Bullets had drilled large holes through the skulls of dozens of protesters. In one of Asmaa’s photographs, a man's brain has slipped out across the field hospital's bloodied floor.", possibly referring to:

In case Asmaa Shehata agrees, we maybe could use these or some of these photographs in WP, too, referring to its use by GlobalPost as an additional option. I would be very grateful, if you could help again, asking Asmaa, whether she would like to provide and authorise these photographs for use in WP Commons, and if you could undertake this operation incase she agrees.

But - of course - it's plenty of effort and time and I understand well, there might be many reasons when you can't respond to this task. Greetings, --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 11:09, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , according to the OTRS permission ticket #2014021210016958 , Asmaa agrees we can copy any photo from this album to wikipedia , so you can copy any photo you want with no problem . --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 09:08, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick response and information! I've got no ORTS account and I can't open the facebook album source so far. But it's good to know about the conditions of her permission for using the photos stored there. At the moment I won't get active in that though. Greetings, --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 10:45, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , I can upload those photos on commons if you want --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 13:49, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Mohamed Ouda, I consider them as very valuable and would like to use them in the German Wikipedia. We don't have any other picture information from the first hours inside of the field hospital and mosque and reliable correspondents referred to Asmaa's "material". I thank you for uploading the existing photos and of course, if you'd like to add some more I would be very grateful for your efforts. I just don't use facebook, nor other social platforms outside Wikipedia and up to know I did not decide to create an own OTRS account. But please don't feel pushed. I contacted you because I saw a chance you could do it. But - even now - you helped a lot. Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 20:23, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , I uploaded many photos now and you can find them in Category:Photos by Asmaa Anwer --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 17:29, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly those which have been cited in GlobalPost by LL. Thank you so much, Mohamed Ouda! We can work with that properly now. Danke sehr! --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 22:11, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I used four of them in de:Blutbad in Kairo und Gizeh 2013 yet and put the most graphic one (Rabaa field hospital (7).jpg) up for discussion. Just to tell you, I appreciated your help a lot. Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 23:52, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Mohamed Ouda, it's me again. Again I have got a problem with the confirmation of the location in one picture. Even though Louisa Loveluck wrote about this image Asmaa "captured this image in between photographing the corpses in Rabaa's field hospital as the violence progressed", for me it seems (the same as with the burned bodies we had before), that this actually might be in Al-Imam (mosque). I see Asmaa's facebook caption "المستشفى الميداني برابعة العدوية-الصفحة الرسمية‎" (I had to "translate" using google translater of course), but I don't think Asmaa wanted to say, she took all the photos in Rabaa field hospital, but also included the photos of bodies later transferred to Al-Iman.
I would assume, #1-#106 and #153-#163 (numbers referring to Asmaa's arabic facebook album) could be taken in Rabaa field hospital, whereas #107-#152 migtht have been taken in Al-Iman.
This can be important because our photo here is called "Rabaa field hospital..." (and Louise Loveluck alo stated in February it is Rabaa field hospital and called the man shown on this photo a medical worker), but I think it is in Al-Iman mosque, used as a morgue. Maybe we should rename it. But I don't know what name we should chose, because Al-Iman has not been confirmed. Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 21:35, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anglo-Araneophilus , yes you are right , after refer to Asmaa she confirmed this photo "Rabaa field hospital... was in Al-Iman mosque and sure we should change its name and description . --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 05:56, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thank you for your efforts again! It's good to know Asmaa is confirming it. I already changed the according captions in the German article before to stay careful about the statement by Louisa Loveluck. Louisa may have changed the two places then. I don't dare to change the images name since I did not speak with Asmaa by my own. Finally we've got some meaningful pictures for Nasr city's Rabaa field hospital and Al-Iman. Thank you for that! --Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 17:14, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Qatar not ready

[edit]

Hello Mohamed Ouda, Earlier you showed interest in organizing Wiki Loves Monuments in Qatar. Checking today it seems that there is no landing page for participants in Qatar. This means I can't set up a CentralNotice banner for Qatar now.

If you can fix this issue in the coming days, you can ask me to activate the CentralNotice for Qatar. Romaine (talk) 20:26, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cairo

[edit]

Hi Mohamed, thanks for your nice reply! I was thinking especially of the Egyptian Museum. I read that since a few years they do not allow pictures inside anymore and the visitors are required to deposit their cameras at the entrance... If you could help to check this I will greatly appreciate!! Are you also a Wikimedian? Do you think they could be interested if we propose my visit officially as a Wikimedia photographer? I am a member of Wikimedia Italia. I will be in Cairo from Nov. 16th to 22nd. Thank you a lot!! --Sailko (talk) 18:55, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mohamed Ouda, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Wiki Loves Africa

[edit]

The Wiki Loves Africa 2017 photographic contest is officially closed. Thank you all for your participation !

This year, the photographic competition has resulted in an amazing 18,294 image uploads to Commons around the theme People at Work.
International winners have been announced !!! Check it out on Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2017/Winners. Congratulations to winners and all those who participated and organised events. More national winners are yet to be announced.
Please follow us on Facebook to know more and stay informed next year.

There are several fun ways you can help us to make the impact of Wiki Loves Africa stronger:

  • Add more categories to your images so that people will find them to use them in articles ... you can see how to do this here: Quick Guide to Categories on Commons
  • Improve the images description to make them easier to understand and reuse.
  • Add your image to a relevant Wikipedia article, i.e. if your image shows a tailor sewing, then add the image to an article on Sewing or Tailors - this allows readers to see different global perspectives of a universal subject. You can see how to do this here: How to insert images into Wikipedia using WikiText
  • If there is no article that reflects the subject of your images, then start an article about that subject. If you are a new editor, you can see how to do that here: Creating your first article
  • Add more images - you can add more images or media that reflect interesting and encyclopedic subjects in your immediate community.
  • Use the images produced during the contest. Here is a short link to the best ones : c:Category:Best images from Wiki Loves Africa 2017

We look forward to seeing your contributions!!

Warmest,

Anthere for the Wiki Loves Africa Team

Hello Mohamed Ouda

We are writing because you have participated in the Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) photo competition in the past. Results have been published and winning pictures may be seen here !

This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Saddam Crimes.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!
