Image deletion warning | Image:Lord Peel arrives.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Image Tagging Image:AlphonseLvy_Shofar.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:AlphonseLvy_Shofar.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Moving images to Commons
[edit]When moving images from other Wikimedia Foundation projects to Commons, please ensure you upload the image at the highest resolution available, not the size of the preview on the image page. For example, Image:SterlingBridge.jpg is available at 2560 × 1920 pixels on the English Wikipedia but you only uploaded it at the preview size of 800 × 600 pixels. You can obtain the highest resolution available by either clicking on the image and then saving it or following the "Full resolution" link underneath the image. Don't save the image as it appears on the image description page as often this is not the highest resolution available. Adambro 16:35, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

The permission cited in the image is ambiguous — it doesn’t state clearly that the copyright holder agreed to release it under GNU FDL, and not just permitted to put it on Wikipedia without redistribution allowed. Also, there is no proof that the author really did write that to you. So please use OTRS as described above, so the actual permission can be stored. Thanks for uploading File:Ho_chi_minh.jpg.
If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. Thank you. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 19:47, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

Thanks for uploading File:Coat_of_arms_of_the_Gambia.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Coat_of_arms_of_the_Gambia.png ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
- It seems that this file needs a confirmation e-mail from its copyright holder(s) in order to be hosted on Commons. It is the case for any copyrighted logo, content coming from an identified website or publication, or credited to somebody else than the Commons user. The copyright holder (maybe it's you, maybe not) should send us an e-mail in this form to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. When the e-mail has been sent, please apply OTRS pending on the image page (in the "permission" field) to tell us so (and to prevent the file from being deleted). Please don't ignore this message, contact me instead if you want to discuss the issue or if you have a question about the procedure. Eusebius (talk) 14:56, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Used common helper to upload, I'm not the original uploader. מתניה (talk) 15:21, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- I know, you can ignore the message. I have tagged the original on Wikipedia (it's not the first time it gets imported and then deleted). --Eusebius (talk) 15:28, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
naming
[edit]Hi מתניה,
thanks for uploading. But please use meaningful filenames instead of File:06092008(030).jpg. --Túrelio (talk) 20:25, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, I apologise I'm transferring from he wiki, if I'll rename I'll need to change many articles. Ideas? מתניה (talk) 20:29, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- No, that's not a problem. During the process of changing a filename on Commons the link is corrected on all project pages where it is used. As you know what it shown in this image, you might propose a better filename. Just enter NEWNAME.XYZ on the image page. --Túrelio (talk) 20:32, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. missed that one. If were here already, would you explain to me how can I translate the site to Hebrew, I didn't understand the help page. מתניה (talk) 20:36, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- "translate the site to Hebrew" - which site? --Túrelio (talk) 20:37, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- commons, of course. מתניה (talk) 20:41, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- What, the whole Commons? Try this. --Túrelio (talk) 21:00, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- No, that one I know. I meant a page like this. מתניה (talk) 21:03, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok. Well, I fear you would have to do it by yourself ;-). Or you might ask User:Yuval Y, who is also an admin, or someone from this list whether he/she has already prepared a translation. --Túrelio (talk) 21:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'll be glad to do it myself just need some guidelines. fine, I'll ask one of them, thank you very much. מתניה (talk) 21:16, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Deprecated License
[edit]
Hello. Thank you for uploading Image:Nonograve.jpg, however the license that you have uploaded it under has been deprecated. Please could you select a new free license that describes the rights of the image correctly? If you are not able to do this, the image will be be deleted in 7 days.
For more information on licenses that can be used on Wikimedia Commons, please see Commons:Licensing. If you have any questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you for your patience and consideration. This is an automatic message by Nikbot.--Filnik 10:40, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
File:Carole_Smaha.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
